Okay, I just wanted to pop in and thank everybody for saying such nice things. I've been blushing for days. Thank you! It was great to meet Tom, Peggy and Harry, and to say hello to all of the usual suspects - Meth, Woj, Steve & Karen, Gail & Pat, Sue & Patti, Susan & George, Mosh ("roadie in training" according to Susan W. - mosh sold my CDs), & Rick. Next - because no one has yet reported in (though I'm on digest, so I'm behind), here's a very brief rundown of the late, late susie set at Passim's on Saturday. I don't keep setlists or take notes, so I'll ask those of you who were there to fill in any blanks. Susan warned us after her arrival on stage that the late show was not the show to see if one was hoping for a professional, planned out performance. She was her usual goofy, frenetic "susie after dark" self. Some of the gems that I remember from the setlist were: Old Mistake (one of my fave guitar parts ever!) Boy from East Dubuque Philanthropy (my fave of the song cycle) See the Body Red Dress 3/4 Moon (my favorite susie lyric!) May I Suggest Medley of I Only Have Eyes for You/Star Spangled Banner Susan closed Saturday's late night set by telling us about her MAY 15th gig - - singing the Star Spangled Banner for the Red Sox. She started singing an a cappella version of I only have eyes for you, and then whipped into the Star Spangled Banner, interrupting herself to tell us that there'd be a 3 second delay live. Matt Smith, who was behind the sound board at Passim, immediately adjusted Susan's vocal so that we could all hear the 3 second delay. Susan continued singing, and included jazzy vocal walking bass lines in between the lyrics of the tune. Wild! Of course there was much more, but I'm getting all of the shows confused, as I also went on Sunday night, with my Dad. Susan played "Let's Regret this in Advance" with a new lyrical intro. that really sold the song for me. It wasn't previously one of my favorites - but with the new text, it was colored in a new light and I got it. Very nice! Yay! Sunday's set had a theme - Sus played much the same set list as she has played over the past few months (Time Between Trains, Shade of Grey, Sorry About Jesus, St. Mary's, etc.) but asked the audience to help her observe the Sabbath by taking notice of any religious aspects in the tunes. Some folks got creative - after "Big Car" someone yelled out "Utah!" when Susan asked for listener input on religious references. Later, when Susan announced that she'd be doing only three more songs, a woman in the front row remarked, "Well, how very trinitarian of you, " which made Susan smirk. My goodness, I'm doing a terrible job of this. I'm a little sleep deprived, so I'll close, but first, one last little vignette: Susan came back to do an encore on Sunday night, and sat down at the piano. A woman from the back of the house yelled, "Misery! Misery! Misery! Misery!" in rapid succession. Susan stood up, looked to the back of the room, and said, " Are you alright? Someone should help her! My goodness!" Then, after sitting back down at the piano, she explained that she wasn't planning on playing Misery/Happiness and that she'd like to do a piano number instead. Another audience member yelled out, "How many want Misery?!?!?" and the crowd went wild hooting and clapping. Susan gave us an exasperated grin, but then got up and did a SING A LONG version of "Misery/Happiness"...that's right, folks, 120 people singing, "who's that asshole in the corner?" and "i never dissapoint!" Then, after much applause, she played a hymn that I didn't recognize (though many audience members sang along to susan's instrumental piano version of it). The show ended with Susan and the entire crowd humming "Amazing Grace" together. Very much fun....
