I some how managed to miss the fact that Kellie Lin Knott was opening for Susan last night. What a wonderful surprise ... Tom and I absolutely love her voice and her songs. I told her after that when you see openers a few grab you but not many. Kellie has a lovely voice and her songs were well written (as was later confirmed by Susan when she said she was a great writer). I especially enjoyed the "salt and sand" song. I can't wait to hear more from her. We enjoyed the EP on the ride home and we'll be at your next local show listening and smiling. Susan was as usual in fine form. We enjoyed the newer songs but I was particularly happy to hear an old favourite "Gotta see the body". Even if events in Texas have brought it back into the set list, I love that song and could listen anytime. I also enjoyed "Some other Town" which I don't think I've ever heard live. I always enjoy "St.Mary's" and Tom always hopes that "Yellow House" gets played. He was a happy camper last night. Her new song with the line "I'm your country at war" was a nice surprise. I think she got her message across well. I thoroughly enjoyed that one. It was great to talk to Susan briefly before we left. I always feel like we can't leave a show until we at least say hello. We arrived early (feeling a little silly being the first ones there) and claimed a seat up front. So we had a leisurely dinner and got to see both Kellie and Susan and Jane set up. Dinner was good, desert was great but they ran out of Shiraz at some point. I think being there during the set-up made it feel like a casual evening. I was a little distracted at first by the dinner noise. It wasn't really that bad though considering they served all through the show. I think that added to the informality of the show and eventually I didn't notice it at all. We will definitely be back at Capo's for the Ellis Paul show and the Northern Lights show in May. Thanks again Susan (and Kellie) for a great show ...
