Apparently the church sponsors a half-dozen folk music concerts in their auditorium every year. They've had the likes of Brooks Williams, Chris & Meredith Thompson and Cheryl Wheeler; Susan's presence there made a bit more sense once I found that out. It was an interesting show for many reasons, not least of which was that Jane ended up doing the sound (!). Their sound guy never showed up -- I heard later that he had thought the show was today (Saturday), since their shows are usually on Saturdays. Big Oops. woj and I took over the merch sales duties, and JeffW ended up helping Jane out at the board once things got going. So it was a team effort, and the evening ended up being a lot of fun. I heard the organizers express pleasure with the turnout (I counted at least 80), and one of them told Susan that was the best show they'd had there in a long time. I got the feeling she wasn't just saying that, either. :) It was Susan's first show in a couple weeks, so she was well-rested and talkative, and had some new between-song-banter material (favorite bit: there was a story in the news about President Bush meeting with the Elizabeth Smart's father back in September. This is remarkable in that it was the first time ever that the words "Bush" and "Smart" appeared in the same sentence. ;). woj was writing down the set list, so I'll leave that to him. It was a pretty standard show. No new songs, except the little Prayer For Driving that she did immediately following "Big Car" to close out the first set. It was simultaneously silly and very sweet. And of course, since she was performing on church grounds "Sorry About Jesus" was part of the show. It went over very well -- so well, in fact, that the church's minister bought a copy of _Time Between Trains_ afterwards so he could listen to it again!! He said it was one of the most powerful songs he'd ever heard. Alas a prior commitment is keeping woj and I from the show in Westchester tonight ... but I'm sure it'll be great too. Looking forward to the show at Capo's in Lowell on April 11 (that's the one with Kellie Lin opening, yay)!! =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Dorothy Scott, 3/16/03 =============================================== HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Mar 2003 15:03:34 -0500 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: Re: Susan in Granby, CT On Sat, Mar 15, 2003 at 01:03:01PM -0500, meredith wrote: > woj was writing down the set list, so I'll leave that to him.
