I don't play, even though I have a guitar - a Yamaha, which saw more action last fall when PBCoustic played it in Chicago than it ever has...have a piano, too, but I hardly play that either. I just sing. That's one thing I've always noticed about Susan's songs, speaking as an alto and life-long provider of harmony - I never notice any other vocals on her stuff. Okay, so, before a bunch of you will chime in...I'm not saying that none of her tunes have additional vocals. I guess what I mean is that as an alto, if there's a harmony part on a song, I pretty much automatically latch on to it, and sing along on it vs. the melody. And that never has happened to me on any of Susan's stuff. If there's additional vocal tracks on her tunes, I just don't notice them. Her voice just does that to me, and I mean that in a very good way. Hey, it's been a long day and I'm babbling, what can I say. Off topic - for any of you who are Celtic/Bluegrass fans, May I Suggest the Chieftain's newest compilation - 'Down the Old Plank Road - the Nashville Sessions' - man, oh, man, this is a fine collection - the Chieftains, of course, joined by a stellar cast of Bluegrass greats - Earl Scruggs, Bela Fleck, Tim O'Brien, Ricky Skaggs, Jeff White, Del McCoury, Alison Krauss...great vocals by Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, Patty Griffith, Buddy and Julie Miller, Gillian Welch, Martina McBride....this disc hasn't left my player since I bought it 2 weeks ago.
