I'm thinking about doing an instrumental version of Montgomery Street, kind of a bluesy version that I've been playing around with. A guy who calls himself Guitar George answered thusly: "I really liked Susan Werner, whom I saw at the Ark in Ann Arbor in January. That lady had a voice! I guess she's an ex opera singer. She was kind of humming while she tuned her guitar and even that sounded great. Talented guitarist and pianist, she wrote her own material. It's a wonder that people like her don't supplant all those teeny bopper pop divas! Are we as a nation simply tasteless?? shudder..." I've mentioned Susan several times on the Jefferson Airplane list, and I'm mostly ignored. Occasionally, I've quoted her songs, when appropriate. No one mentioned Norah Jones. Mostly they mentioned all the great rock divas that you can think of, and some of the newer ones. I think my singing's a little too ragged on "Grey"... Any other feedback from anyone on doing the one or two CD set? Kris, you're doing the work... Paul, didn't someone else want to do Old Mistake? but then, why not have more than one artist's rendering? i would love do sing Old Mistake to someone, in particular (how nice to send it on a cd....), but depending on how many contributors we end up with, based on a 70 minute cd, people COULD do more than one SW cover. (i point this out because i'd love to cover Nefertiti's Dream, but i already staked a claim on Like Bonsai).(can i change horses?)(is there anyone compiling a list of who spoke for what??) so, it sounds like we're ostensibly planning a "strictly susan" cd. if the event goes well, we may in the future plan an additional compilation of original material based, in theory, on our mutual influence. is this correct? it's sw-wonderfully scary to consider sending my heretofore unheard songs to this group of friendly strangers. i delight in the prospect. i hope to not stand in my own way! i hope to have enough time to contribute. i hope, i really hope, that every one has the time and coolth to let it shine. back to the present. is Susan Werner performing anywhere these days? she hasn't been to oregon for 18 months. and according to her published schedule, she isn't planning on coming back. any news, ergo, welcome! john HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V7 #39 ****************************** --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
