The "everybody's talking" was on a minicassette player played into a microphone... So the quality 'dropped' several times producing that old time radio sound. That sound, for anyone who is interested can be simulated using a sound edit program like Cakewalk or CoolEdit I would suggest finding someone wiht a mini-disc recorder and a decent set of microphones. A set up can be purchased for under two hundred dollars, and lots of people have them. Or even a good microphone attached to a computer soundcard. This might be easily arranged for under 50 dollars if you have a relatively decent sound card and someone wiht some sound editing equipmtnet can take out the inevitable white noise that will occur. Perhaps if Beth discloses approximately where she lives there's a lister who can help her out with the equipment. ~simona ===== Simona L. (hey, i'm a baritone, and it really suits my voice!) i have a .068 on the bottom, up to a .017 on top. there is a little problem with some fret buzz around the sixth fret of the sixth string when played acoustically, but it doesn't come through a pickup. my local luthier said the neck's too straight and i should buy a longer scale guitar (with my next spare few thousand dollars, right?). but for my regular guitar, varying the tuning between standard and open D, i don't worry and i don't seem to break strings. i had a problem with one guitar breaking the 2nd string, but i used some steel wool around the hole in the tuning peg. it would break when i tuned down from B to A, so there was obviously something putting a kink in the string. Nick Drake used to use a variation of DADGAD, like DADGDF#, or something. oops, time to split for work. a cup of coffee and one of my favorite subjects can be ruinous to my schedule! good luck, john v HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Feb 03 10:34:52 -0500 From: Kris Richardson Subject: CD Timeline We haven't really set up a timeline, but we probably should so this doesn't hang around and interest is lost. I think the Martin is basically in standard except for an occasional excursion into dropped D. For the "C" and "B" based tunings she uses a fat low E string. If your interested in tunings as they relate to folk music one of the Joni Mitchell websites http://www.jmdl.com has a fairly comprehensive list of tunings that Joni uses, and that's a lot of tunings. This site is the home of the Joni Mitchell Discussion list (JMDL) and also has tabs for over 100 tunes. JMDL is also hosted by smoe.org. Are we doing a double CD of "1 original / 1 cover", or just a single CD of a cover/tribute? I think a double would be a cool way to hear the contributors own stuff as well as their best SW... but that's just IMHO... Wow, this CD idea really has the list hoppin'! "I like it! Hey, Mikey...!" (For those of you too young to get the reference, you were born a little late. LOL) I was just brainstorming while emailing Kellie Lin Knott and came up with the following idea... The Wisconsin Cream City Chorus will be performing a concert called "True Stories" on March 29th in Milwaukee. I think "Little Yellow House" would be a great number to do with a big group. Assuming the WCCC will be taping the concert, a group of us could either use the equipment after the concert to record this tune or the chorus might even be able to do the song as an encore to the concert, providing the powers-that-be in the chorus are willing to have us learn and perform the song... and I can figure out the music... I suppose we would need Susan's permission to perform it. That might put the kibosh on the whole thing, mightn't it? Of course, if we COULD do it, I would invite any believers to attend both the concert and/or the taping... if this comes to fruition. Of course, if we DO do this, I wouldn't be able to get the recording to Kris until after the 24th... Hmmm... I just found myself singing, "... this little yellow house has too many romms and I sit all alone and cry... feelin' restless and ignored, starin' at the schedule board, wond'rin' why the fates above always route love through Miami... where my sister's baby boy has learned to say my name..." LOL Does this ever happen to anyone else or am I singularly off my rocker? On another subject... Yesterday, I asked my partner, Brian (who was in bed with a cold) if he was going to watch "The Norah Jones Show." Of course, he knew exactly what I was talking about ("The Grammys"). Reactions, anyone? There seemed to be quite a lot of discussion about Norah not too long ago. Has anyone's opinion changed? (Mind you, this conversation is being started by a person who listens almost exclusively to Contemporary Christian music... plus SW & KLK. LOL) Enough rambling for now, eh?
