Very cool compliation... allow me to offer my congrats to Susan, Jane, Harry, Larry, and everybody associated with it... and to "The Fans", you know who you are ... nice to be able to put faces with names from down here in Texas!!! Fun to see the early photos... and I'm sorry, Harry, but is it just too ironic that the very first scene in the video (picking up the paper) offers us an opportunity to "look down Susan's shirt"....? Maybe it's just me... And besides the excellent quality of the concert footage, may I say the "fast-forward" segment about trying to write a song while sitting and smoking and juggling is GENIUS... cracked me up.... Thank you again, Susan, for an unusual sharing of yourself... Yes. I got to see it on Christmas Eve. Lacking a DVD player, I brought it with me to a friend's house. I thought it was great fun. I especially liked the view of Chicago that can be had from Susan's window, about which, nothing more should be said. And the fans looked like they'd be nice to have an Italian dinner with. Susan, here's to hoping all your gigs in 2003 will be ''print-out gigs.'' If you listened to Morning Edition on NPR this morning you may have caught Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady playing a bit of their folky blues as Acoustic Hot Tuna. Jorma and Jack, you may recall, were original members of Jefferson Airplane. They were in a band together in high school in Washington DC in the early 60s and have been playing finger-pickin' blues together since 1969. Jorma's release this year, Blue Country Heart, was voted 16 on this year's WFUV poll, which Simona kindly told us about this morning. If you like finger-pickin' blues and want to hear one of the greatest rock bass players ever, don't miss Acoustic Hot Tuna if they come to your town. On a related note, this Saturday night I will be seeing the current incarnation of We Five, whose version of When I Woke Up this Morning was one of the early fok rock hits. I checked with Chris to see if he was aware of it, and he sent the following: From: jcj@cjenkinsluthier.com Paul, I got the DVD. I have only seen the 1st part, but enjoyed it very much. I was proud of the way the guitar came through. At one point a guitar started playing before any images of the guitar were shown, and I said to my wife, "That sounds great, I hope it is my guitar." It was, so it made my night.
