What have I been doing? Well, last Sunday night there was the matter of an extremely tragic baseball game which caused me to leave the house in the 5th inning to catch Eddie from Ohio as a desparately needed form of pain relief. Thursday night it was the Rolling Stones who are still totally awesome. If you have a chance and the money, don't miss them. Speaking of covers, they did a rousing version of the O'Jays "Love Train.'' Friday night it was Mary Gauthier. I'm glad I didn't see her right after the World Series, because I never would have recovered. Mary is great, but, let's put it this way, Karla Faye is as lighthearted as she gets. Mary revealed that she had spent the first year of her life in a Catholic orphanage/hospital, which may have something to do with her perspective. Her between-song raps were very interesting. As one of her encore songs she did Springsteen's Nebraska which is about 50s mass murderer Charles Starkweather. She spoke very admiringly of Springsteen's entire Nebraska album. MAN, is > she dark.... but it's mesmerizing... It was funny, because in the church were Mary played, there was a folk dance class in the social hall so that Mary was singing in the sanctuary. It was a Unitarian Church (duh!!) so there was no cross above her, but when Mary came out, she kind of looked around like she didn't belong here and said, "I'm not used to singing in a place like this. Good thing there's no cross up there." I immediately thought of Vance's comments during the FRFF song swap. My intro to him was when he opened for Susan in Feb of 2001, and blew everybody away... Suzie Tee in Michigan just saw him two nights in a row, so she'll tell you the same thing... And yes, did go see him two nights in a row - one, a scheduled outing, and one, an unexpected bonus...once I found out on Friday night he was playing Saturday night a mere 55 miles from home, I was THERE. He has quite a way with words. He is a poet and a gentleman and has a helluva interesting guitar technique. Go see him if you can! How big is the theatre?! That's a *pathetic* turnout. On another list I'm on (the Nields Nook, if anyone is keeping score) someone saw Susan for the first time last night. He posted the minute he got home, and the subject line was "Susan Werner -- WOW!!" :) I'm really looking forward to the show in Great Barrington, MA where Susan will be joining Nerissa & Katryna Nields and The Kennedys. woj and I saw The Kennedys at the Acoustic Cafe this past Friday night at the Acoustic Cafe. They had Chris & Meredith Thompson opening for them, and the Kennedys incorporated them into their set quite a bit. It was a great show, that made me realize that when the Kennedys and the Nields are on stage with Susan, there is going to be more musicianship up there than a sane person can reasonably handle. I can't wait. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Chris & Meredith Thompson, 12/8/02 ============================================== HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V6 #196 ******************************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
