Joan Baez is playing right now but won't be in a few minutes. (Does anyone know the name of the guy she sang Drugstore Truck-Drivin' Man with?). At 11:00 am Eastern, 8:00 am Pacific, they will be showing Don't Look Back, a documentary about Dylan. If you miss these, check your schedules, they may show them again. Erm, Jeffrey Shurtleff in the recordings I have ... Last nite sure provided a "Newport Folk Festival anniversary minute" ... between the articles/commentaries on what *really* happened (i.e. crowd was annoyed at Dylan going electric or that his temporary band only did 3 songs (the only 3 they had learned in time) and then left them hanging), and the chance for retrospective media programs and the musician comments. I was at a Nanci Griffith concert, and she did "Boots of Spanish Leather" at about 9 p.m. CDT, and introduced it with comments about what "Bob must be doing onstage right now" ... Someone brought up Ode to Billy Joe and said it was a song about a gay man who was in the closet and couldn't be happy in straight relationships and therefore took his own life. Makes perfect sense. It's an interpretation I'd never thought of before. Everyone tries to figure out what they threw off the bridge, and most people think it's a ring, and that the couple broke up, but not much interpretation is given to why he jumped from the bridge.
