I got there early because I wanted to beat the nasty traffic that can form on I-5 around 4:00 pm. There is an antique mart across the street from the Belly Up where I wandered to kill some time. There is a place in the antique mart that sells used LPs. I was looking at the old albums, and there was a 9 or 10 year-old kid there doing the same. I asked him if he liked records and he said, "Is that what these are? I thought they were some kind of books or something. They're huge." I said, "No, these are records. These are what they had before CDs. You need a turntable to play them. Do you have a turntable at home?" "No, what's a turntable?," he asked. One day she was out on the golf course playing alone. There was a three-some of men ahead of her, and she was waiting for them so she could tee off. They suggested that she join them and make a foursome, so she did. They asked her what she did and she told them she was an opera singer. They said, "We're singers too." They were laughing and seemed to be getting a big kick out of this because she obviously had no idea who they were, even after they told her the name of their act. They told her that in fact they were playing a show that night. She asked them where, and they said, "The Forum" (that's about a 15,000 seat venue.) They seemed to enjoy that she didn't know them and was just having fun playing golf with them even after they told her that they were Van Halen. And now you know....the rest of the story.
