You may disagree with my opinion, Sharon, but when you say "it sucks," what are you really saying? Does it suck because you don't agree with it? Maybe I don't understand consumerism but my opinion does not "suck" nor does anyone else's. My opinion is an honest one. I like Dar. I like to listen to her albums. I don't like THE IDEA of putting out an album of same material when one only has 4 albums out. Out There Live may be her best album yet, but I don't like the IDEA of it. I think an artist should have a very large catalogue before releasing previously-released material I don't know why you think I don't understand consumerism. I don't think most consumers like the idea of buying the same things when they could have new things. > when in her career did susan werner put on a live cd ? What does that have to do with anything? She didn't and, if it were to contain a bunch of songs I already have, I wouldn't like it. > therefore.. richard shindell's brillant Live Courier was because he "had no new material" My statement was that when an artist releases previously-released material after only 4 CDs it makes me think they have no new material. I did not say, because I don't know, whether she had enough new material for a CD or not. Are you telling me she did? I would tend to doubt it. > some artists are very different Live.. eg... Susan Werner and Lucy Kaplansky ( who will be stage mates for many shows through March 2003- at least in my area) their performances are different each show.. And people who like to tape and trade shows can have a field day. That's no excuse, in my sucky opinion, for re-releasing the same material. > while dar preforms the same songs.. in the same way.. her on stage performance > wit and charm is endearing to her audiences .. unfortunately that was not > conveyed to the max on the cd... My opinion of the idea of releasing previously-released material when you have a 4-CD catalogue. Thanks, as always, for respecing opinions that differ from your own. Lowe" Subject: Remakes Hello All, Interesting repartee we have going. My two cents on re-doing songs: The CD is the artists lasting work. Songs change drastically over time as songwriters grow. The songs I wrote two years ago I tend to sing with different emphasis. That having been said, I get to hear Susan live very infrequently and will be moving to Tucson in the next few months and may never get to see out there. She has many songs in her repertoire that I have never heard, and I would rather she put that material on her CDs than remakes of songs that I've heard. Mine the material for live shows, but give us new material, or at least previously unrecorded material on the next CD. I would kill to be as prolific as she is, and want to hear songs I haven't been fortunate enough to hear live. The best to all of you - this is a wonderful list and I have to live vicariously through your musings and concert reviews. I may have to start driving to California to hear Suze. Hey, I started out by saying that my tongue was planted firmly in my cheek (cheeky monkey that I am). Frankly, I don't think Ron's OR ANYONE ELSE's opinion sucks, and I thank God that we are free to express our (sucky OR nonsucky) opinions 'til the cows come home and kick the bucket. Ron, I think you ROCK, no matter what side of whomever (or the lack thereof) you wake up on!!! I'm not going to agree with all your opinions, naturally; we're not the same person... Which reminds me... Have Michael and LaToya Jackson EVER been seen side by side? Sorry, that just slipped out! Oy! (That's Yiddish for 'Uff Da' for you Scandihoovians out there!) Where was I...? Oh yes... I wish I could take credit for the "wrong side of no one" remark, but I heard it from some other smart a** (David Spade maybe?). Here's wishing everyone has a fabulous weekend! I was pleasantly surprised to be awakened by the sound of my fabulously gorgeous and supremely intelligent partner, Brian, mowing the lawn on what I was led to believe would be a wet, icky morning. So I got up and took the dogs for a walk. May your weekend also be spent with those you love. (Make it so!) Peace, Chuck Ellingson "If men can run the world, why can't they stop wearing neckties? My Left Hand - The Musical What I really like about this gauche musical is that they keep using the same songs over and over again, but insist that it's ok because they fit in with what's happening in the story. I bought the Broadway cast album. To my surprise, the 24 cuts consisted of 5 songs, each somehow subtly different than the next. Luckily, I bought it used on Ebay. Mamma Mia!!
