Hello to all, I've been lurking for a bit and now have a question. Does Susan ever visit us here? This might be one only she can answer. A friend, who knows of my interest in Susan's recordings claims to have seen an LP at a local St Louis swap meet. He passed it up and doesn't really remember the particulars. Of course, by the time I got there, the item in question was long gone. In fact, it may not have even been by her. Do any of you historians out there know, if Susan ever recorded a vinyl LP? This thing, if as described would have been made sometime in the 1980s. Perhaps, her first recording in Iowa? Thanks for any information. There are other performers of note who *are* on this list, but I'll never tell who they might be :-) >A friend, who knows of my interest in Susan's recordings claims to have seen an LP at a local St Louis swap meet. To the best of my knowledge, no such recording exists. Her first album (actually a tape) Midwestern Saturday Night was financed by a philanthropist who heard her at the Mermaid Inn in Philly, and wrote her a check on the spot. Just to be sure, I'll ask her on Sunday at Concerts under the Stars in Upper Merion, PA. So, who's gonna be there? Charlie (=}===# LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! I'm thinking that in the early 80s susan would have been a teenager in Iowa and then an opera student in Philadelphia (if the cd jacket bios are accurate!). So She wouldn't have been putting out any albums whatsoever in those days. So rest assured, you didn't miss out on an ultra rare SW vinyl record... I recently met a woman at a Lucy Kaplansky show and we were talking about the fashion of folk singers, or more specifically the lack thereof. Lucy K. is known for her flashy clothes and even makes her wardrobe choices part of her act, discussing her new purchases and wish-list items during her shows. This woman mentioned that our beloved Susan went through a flashy phase herself a few years ago, wearing everything from black leather pants to even a red pleather outfit in concert that this woman swore she personally saw Susan wear. If we were discussing Jonatha Brooke or Dar Williams, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. But Susan Werner??? Every time I've ever seen her live she wear jeans or some equally mundane apparel. Can anyone out there confirm this story? I have a $20 bet resting on the outcome. Personally, I must have missed the 'flashy phase'. Susan has always dressed rather low-key when i've seen her. But I will vouch for Kaplansky. I've only seen her perform once, and she was wearing a croc - leather pair of pants thatt she talked about during the show. They would slip down in the back when she sat at the keyboard.. Charisse in Wichita - who oalways wears black when she performs... Oddly enough, this description describes the lead singer of the renegade band SomethingBlack perfectly. Courtney picked up that pleather number from Maura Kennedy's booth at FRFF '01. And the band has been known to cover Susan, well, they do that at virtually every gig. As for Dar, I've followed her career from the early '90s and i've never seen her dress flashy. Of course there was that morning TV appearance with the Bjork style hair :-) Jonatha has been known to dress pretty wild on occasion. I'm hoping that will happen on June 1st when she'll be at Appel Farm in Elmer, New Jersey. Charlie (=}===# LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! In theory, reproduced CDs should be perfect. As noted elsewhere, the rot is caused by defective discs or imperfect software or hardware. I've been careful to select branches with experience and good equipment. Since this tree is more like a shrub (leaves get a third copy of the master) we should escape these bugs. If anyone finds their recordings to be substandard, please get in touch with me and we'll work this out. Tree one produced no complaints of clips or pops. Jonathan's vine is an idea worth pursuing. The next tree is many months away and a vine or two in the interim is appropriate. The obvious problem is that those of us without the ability to copy CDs will need to run their recordings to tape. Also the scramble to get on a list or reply to a post can be hectic. You're not implying are you, Chuck, that Sorry about Jesus is autobiographical? Susan said it's 1% autobiographical and that's good enough for me. You wouldn't be suggesting otherwise would you, Chuck? Nah. Not possible. Lucy dresses nice, but I wouldn't call her a Gwen Stefani (of No Doubt - Hey Baby, Hey Baby, Hey!). Maybe she wore some leather during the Red Parker period? I don't recall. Do you call a cheetah top not flashy? Then there were those flashy red babushkas that she wore at Falcon Ridge last summer.
