Am I the only one who's heard the fluttering and channel swapping, along with popping that happens when CDRom drives are used to copy home-burned audio discs on-the-fly? Programs other than Exact Audio Copy do not error-check so the errors cause clicks/pops and other anomalies. If you haven't heard them, you're lucky. Shorten and/or Exact Audio Copy are excellent ways to sew up the anomalies of serially copied CDRs. Better yet--make a copy for yourself and send the discs you received on to the next person to copy. If I'm confident enough that I'm making an exact copy of a music disc, then I'm happy to keep that copy for myself and accept any risks the copying method may have. On the other hand, maybe it's not that important to most in the trees, and it'd be best to maybe just have one branch for those to whom this is an issue. For many the technical aspect is bothersome--but everybody wants to hear clean CDRs. Just an idea.
