Plain gold wedding bands are nice.... ;-) >Already have several friends/relatives > who will play several Klezmer songs...seeking a band who would play an > additional variety of songs.... > perhaps a Philly/NJ or MD band.... In 1983 in a big tent in Evanston, a friend of mine married a member of the Klezmorim, which was one of the first modern Klezmer bands. The Klezmorim played at the party which was filmed by 60 Minutes for a piece they were doing on Klezmer music. I was actually shown dancing on 60 Minutes for maybe 2 or 3 seconds. Of course, several local Klezmer fans crashed the party. Apparently he did a phone interview with her. It's a very well-written, articulate article, beginning with a different perspective on the 'typical bio', and concluding with some concise comments on NNF. A couple of photos of Susan with Jimmy LaFave at Falcon Ridge last year illustrate the article. Only thing ... while he does reference Sherlyn's lyrics archive, he doesn't provide any explicit identification or link The rest of his site is quite worth visiting as well - some very insightful articles about other musicians too ... I promise to not crash the wedding :-) But wedding music can actually be very, very good if you know where to look. Music Colleges are the best place b/c the great musicians you see on stage five to ten years from now are sitting in class right now and poor as church mice. Heck, even the chic whose music inspired this list played weddings once upon a time. My suggestion is to go to a good music school and specifically see if they have students who advertise their services or if they have a service for the students to find paying gigs. Going to jazz clubs is a good way too. Chances are that those great jazz musicians will play a wedding for a lot less than you would think. As a person who has booked a lot of DJs for charitable events I would say talk to any DJz before they play at your event. Lets just say that if you are not specific enough or just get the wrong DJ you'll be listening to R&B and Rap. I personally have found that making up what music I want to hear and burning special cds and asking guests to volunteer to change the discs can be a good bet, plus incredibley cheap since lots of wedding halls and churches have great sound systems. hoped this helped at all.... ~simona Ockod@aol.com wrote: Seeking suggestions/advice/reviews for a wedding band for a central Pennsylvania wedding in late July. Tonight's ad was "Mr. Wedding Band Guitar Player." I payed extra attention because of this thread. It featured lines like, "No big stadium shows for you. You know the importance of getting the Wallachinsky wedding exactly right." "No groupies for you, although you have bagged the occasional bridesmaid."
