First of all, the Barns is a beautiful venue, I was told it was a series of real barns transplanted from Upstate New York to this suburb of the DC and Baltimore areas. I think that the venue seats about three hundred fifty people on its floor and balcony seats. All the seats are great, but I was able to get especially good ones because Roy Langhans and his wife Susan were unable to go and was generous enough to give me their tickets under the promise that if I sold the extra tickets I would take the believers listers at the concert out afterwards. Thanks Roy, and please keep an eye on your mail for a special something...... Okay, the first concert on friday was quite typical. Ellis Paul opened the evening up and SUsan played pretty much the same set list you have seen posted here before but this time with a Bass (bass cello and bass electric guitar) player and a drum player. This accompianment really enhanced the performance and certainly made it more interesting. The second night was more original! First of all susan came out in a black cocktail dress and pumps. Her band was all spiffed up in suits and ties. ALl the songs were on the piano wtih the exception of one on the guitar. The basic romantic song cycle songs plus a few that were new to me such as "don't hang the moon on me" and after the romantic cycle ended she played a host of covers such as "isn't it loverly" (from my fair lady), "that old black magic", and ended wtiha Cole Porter tune whose name I don't remeber among others. It was definately a departure from the usual performance. Hopefully Susan will continue putting on these all piano jazz shows. I have this feeling that the next album of all piano is on its way soon. okay, that's it from me. So many other believers listers were there that I think they shall have to add more detail to the story. ~simona Simona L. Saw Susan's Room and Y'all. Susan of Susan's Room writes some pretty nice songs and her husband plays some nice guitar. Y'all is two guys who travel around the country in a trailer. They are a real hoot. If you have a chance to see them, don't miss them. Sort of reminded me of EFO - and not just because one of them has a shaved head. Scott found them at the Folk Alliance in Florida.
