[Jeff Wasilko ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 31 Mar 2002 11:51:42 -0500 From: steve Subject: tree two - call for signups Believers, Time at last for our second CD tree. This time we are distributing on two CDRs these wonderful performances by Susan: Austin, TX Cactus Cafe 2000-02-19 (complete performance) Dallas, TX First United Methodist Church 2000-02-14 (one song with intro) Montreal, Canada Club Soda 1995-09-16 (complete performance) Each disc contains slightly less than 74 recorded minutes; complete setlist below. 1) Definition and function of a tape tree: Somebody offers a tape (seed). Someone volunteers to be the administrator of the tree, and thus "run" it. After consultation with the seed, the administrator posts a message to the net soliciting applications to be on the tree. The first person who actually gets the seed tape makes up to 5 CDs and sends them out to 5 people (branches), each of those people make up to 5 copies and send them out to either other branches, or to leaves (who make no copies), etc., until everybody who signed up gets a copy. To get on, you send mail to the administrator following a posting. When on, you make up to 5 CDs for people below you (if you're a "branch"), or none (if you're a "leaf"). The person supplying your tree recording is known as your 'parent', the receiver as the 'child' or 'kid'. It is the child's responsibility to get in touch with their parent, but parents may send first too. Mention the name of the tree (SW tree 2), the address to which to send the discs, and your choice of method of settlement (see below). ***It is essential that all participants discharge their obligation in a timely manner.*** Read more at http://www.jmdl.com/trading/faqtree.htm 2) Nature of these recordings: Each recording was made by an audience member carrying equipment which is designed to replicate sound exactly as it is encountered where he is seated. When playing back the CDRs (especially if listening in headphones) you will hear the show exactly as the taper experienced it. Each comment from the audience as well as the sound of cash registers, cell phones, etc and Susan's ad-lib replies, are fully documented, making for vibrant listening; you will feel very much as though you were at the front of the room. 3) Methods of settling the exchange: Send and receive discs in paper or plastic sleeves, not cases. Agree with your parent one of the following methods. a) Equal trade is preferred. You send two CDs of non-commercial recordings of any band. Each side pays its own postage. b) Blanks & Postage (B&P). You send two blank CDRs and a stamped self-addressed envelope. Read more at http://www.mcnichol.com/bnp/ c) Our branches will also accept $3.- within the USA for the two recorded discs and postage. 4) Confirmation: Every applicant will receive an acknowledgment within three days. If you fail to receive a reply, please *forward* you first mail so that I know this is a second attempt. 5) Procedure: Please reply by April 15th to stevemtl@videotron.ca as follows: a) Branch (within USA) put as subject branch (state) (number of copies you will prepare) e.g.: branch (NY) (5) and within the body place the address to which you'd like your discs mailed and describe your experience (if any) as a branch in other trees. Also provide a brief description of the equipment to be used for duplication. b) Branch (outside USA) put as subject branch (country) (number of copies you will prepare) e.g.: branch (Germany) (4) and within the body place the address to which you'd like your discs mailed and describe your experience (if any) as a branch in other trees. Also provide a brief description of the equipment to be used for duplication. c) Leaf (within USA) put as subject leaf (state) e.g.: leaf (CA) and within the body place the address to which you'd like your discs mailed d) Leaf (outside USA) put as subject leaf (country) e.g.: leaf (England) and within the body place the address to which you'd like your discs mailed 6) Artwork: Thank you Gail for again accepting to be art director for tree two. The setlist below has a few unusual choices, of course. But don't judge by that only. Susan's famous wit is well exercised in the 2000 set. The 1995 versions of the songs differ, in a case or two greatly. And you will hear Susan speak French for which a translation will be provided. Once again, ***It is essential that all participants discharge their obligation in a timely manner.*** Questions, write to stevemtl@videotron.ca . Thank you Susan and management for encouraging this project; Charlie for allowing the use of his list, and Susan (and Jane) for many years of phenomenal shows. Thanks also to our anonymous tapers.
