Hi, I can tell you categorically that no one associated with Susan is selling or giving away your address. My previous post was facetious. As the recipient of approximately 150 e-mails a day, I absolutely abhor spam. Because i have a lot of e-mail addresses (for instance, I use an account to archive the Susan Werner list and alcove lists by individual posts so I can track back more easily) I'm kind of an easy target. On the other hand there are plenty of places on the web that seem to ask for your address for the sole purpose of selling it. In the case of Amazon and some other online retailers they do log your addresses, and my guess is that that's where your address was obtained. I don't shop amazon, so I didn't get that offer. Recently a glitch hit the Penn State listserv system, and spit out a ton of "unable to post message to X list" messages, where X is a variable. Penn State hosts a ton of lists, and some of the lists were, shall we say, "exotic" in nature. Might have been someone attempting to grab addresses, or maybe a student at PSU getting frisky with his hacking skills. And last week, my private Majord*mo was "probed" by someone. The techies at ADDR.COM are stilling trying to track that down. If there is any concern on the part of list members, please e-mail me and I will completely close the list. Let's set Sunday as a deadline. You should be aware that a lot of spam does hit the list, and is intercepted by the simplest of filters. Eventually, someone will come up with software to "mine" even closed lists, but the few attempts to get onto the list for purposes of spamming it have been relatively transparent. Or, maybe i chopped someone who was legitamately trying to get on the list, but I mail them privately, and if I don't get a reply, they don't get on. Charlie (=)==# with too many addresses getting too many offers to increase his bust size. Or some other part of his anatomy. Thanks for helping to make my weekend unforgettable! To the rest of y'all: If you haven't seen this woman perform, do it NOW so you can say "I knew her when..."! That said, on to the issue of Vance's behavior... as Kellie said, I didn't seem all that bothered by it. That's because I had other things on my mind. I (not uncommonly) brought friends to experience Susan, one of whom was new to the Suzie Q Review... and is very religious. Now I, too, am unrepentently Christian... and I'm openly gay... Go figure! I even bought the (faux?) Susan Werner's Christian LP that was up for bid on eBay. (If you're new to the list and/or don't know what I'm talking about, feel free to email me off list and I'll 'splain.) When the intro to Susan's second song of the evening commenced, I cringed. I didn't know what reaction "Sorry About Jesus" would elicit from my friend Theola. (Luckily, she was cool and we laughed about it after the concert.) Allow me, please, to backtrack to a couple of days before the event when Kellie emailed me to tell me that the time and the venue of the concert had been changed. Having planned every minute detail for those of us traveling from Milwaukee to Madison (on a work night - GASP!) and for my Madison friend, I was shaken (not stirred). Then, when my friends and I arrived at Cafe Montmartre, there was no place to sit. Well, Theola, being the shy, reserved person she is (DANGER! Sarcasm afoot!), gravitated toward the nearest brutha and asked how a sista and her posse could acquire furniture on which to rest our weary... selves. Vance, being almost as demure as Theola, demanded the nearest server grab some chairs for his newfound friends, and we were seated... right where we stood... just inside the door. Having already noticed that Kellie was conspicuously absent, I thought, "Well, at least there's no chance of missing her when she comes in!" To make a long story short (I know... too late!), Kel and Heidi arrive (kiss kiss, hug hug, intros all around), the show kicks off ("Hey! He played TWO songs!") ("Oh no! 'Sorry About Jesus'... Avoid Theola's glance at all costs.") ("Look! Jane's crawling around on the stage!") ("Listen as Vance makes a joke about white women crawling up onto the stage whenever he performs.") ("Maybe Vance's ritalin presciption has run dry?!?") By the way, Kel... Great memory! I think you remembered Vance's "Stop it! ... CDs..." remark word for word! So then Vance says that he and Susan will end the show with a medley of tunes... only he neglects to inform the audience that he means a medley of HIS songs. The concert ends WAY too soon, as we've only heard about six SW numbers. (Sorry, I didn't get the set list this time, but I think Kel hit all the Suzietunes.) As Kellie said, despite any behavior which may have been deemed inappropriate by some, it was a good time... lots of fun. My friends really enjoyed themselves. Theola was impressed with Susan and said to tell her that (and also to tell her that she is not impressed easily). I got to chat with Susan and introduce her to my friends (one of whom she remembered having met before), I met the aforementioned Heidi and made plans to meet up with her and Kel later. Oh! And I got a song wedged sideways into my cranium. (Which song was it, Kel? Stationary?) I must have sung the first few lines about a hundred times, cursing myself for leaving the disc at home (and not being "with it" enough to just buy another copy of NNF. Duh!) Anyway... on Saturday night, I had the privilege of catching a Kellie Lin Knott gig at a Madtown coffee joint where she literally (OK, not "literally" literally) blew the act that followed her OFF THE FREAKIN' STAGE! Like I said before, catch her folks! Not if, but WHEN you can! That, FINALLY, is all I have to say. Except...
