The last three-four years Susan's been at the Freight & Salvabe in Berkeley she's done practically the same set list (maybe one or two songs different). That's over years. I'm hoping this year (3/2) will be different. What's weird is that I saw her in NY during that period and the show was completely different. She got back to Berkeley and played the same songs she'd played the year before. susan HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2002 09:43:18 -0800 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Re: Same Shows Susan K. wrote: > What's weird is that I saw her in NY during that period and > the show was completely different. From what I've read on this list, Susan is far more adventurous with her shows in the East than when she comes to the West Coast, with the exception of the second show in Eugene last year. I really wish she would be adventurous out here, but I guess she doesn't feel as confident of her fan base here and believes she should rely on tried and true material. But to me it's all good, and I wish she would vary things more. From a previous post by a nameless annoyance: > I'm sure Susan is a nice person but > the next time she is performing near your home ask her > to come to your house and "exhibit her art" When I invite her over to my house I'll say, "Darling, can't we try something different tonight? You always do the same thing when you come to the West Coast." If there are fans attending both, she usually recognizes that and is prepared with a different set. She seems to pull out the stops a little more - especially if it's just her on the bill. Have fun - I'm jealous! It featured several restaurants around the world, including one in Birmingham (Alabama). I didn't catch much of the segment on the castle, but apparently it has a restaurant inside. They re-ran the show again later in the day (yes, my husband was watching the Food Network for a good portion of the afternoon, poor man) but again, I missed the part about the castle. Speaking of bridges, I think they're really cool. Chattanooga has a pedestrian bridge that's one of the oldest of its construction (it was a regular "motor-vehicle" bridge when I was growing up, but had to be shut down for a long time because it became too weak for cars; they later refurbished it to become a pedestrian bridge). It is now part of the Chattanooga RiverWalk, which goes from Chattanooga State community college across the river (at the Walnut St. Bridge) and over to Ross' Landing, where the heart of the Riverbend Festival, the Coca-Cola state, floats every year. I first saw Susan perform on that stage in 1995 when she opened for Mary-Chapin Carpenter. The stage where Susan usually performs, along with any other folk musicians, is at an amphitheatre located under one end of the Walnut St. Bridge. Very cool and breezy on hot June nights, right Lee? Sorry for the history lesson; but Tony & I walked across that bridge on our first date in 1998, so it's very special to me....I'll take any chance to share its history with anyone, LOL! Never having had the opportunity to see Susan at two shows on the same night, I say GO FOR IT. I have been to several back-to-back shows of other artists, and have found, as meth said, that the later shows are always looser, funnier, less structured, less of a time-constraint, etc. And even though a lot of the songs are the same, there ARE differences...and....well....if it's an artist you really like, how much is too much? Last time I saw Eddie From Ohio, the difference between the early and late shows was quite pronounced, even though the set list didn't vary much. The banter and joking was really over the top at the late show, and that's half the fun!
