I notice that there is a new gig on there for 7/28 in Wyncote, PA. That day is the Sunday of FRFF, so if Susan is planning to be there, she's not planning on Sunday, which means she's probably not planning on it at all. Not a good marketing move, in my opinion -- but we've been through that discussion. FRFF got 12,000 people last year in attendance and its the best way to win new fans. I took about a bunch of volunteers from the kids tent with me to a workshop that susan was playing in. They hadn't ever heard her music and not one of them regretted going to this workshop. One guy actually went and bought all four cds directly afterwards! I thought he was nuts, but he listened to them in his car that night and said he was in love. I hope his lovely wife didn't mind his new love interest :) And in Rochester, ny she played a show and I was shocked to see the place at full capacity (about three hundred fifty people according to the fire marshal sign) and almost everyone there had been introduced to her music at falcon ridge! It would be a shame for SW to not appear at such a big festival after the release of her first new album in many years. But, if she indeed doesn't like playing consecutive festivals then that's her perogative (and falcon ridge's loss). Maybe management will see our pleas and remeber that the sign up deadline for falcon ridge is Feb 1st and all final decisions are made by mid march. After all, a saturday show and workshops means that wyncote pa could still see her on sunday! :-) ~sll Simona L. Subject: NNF on Radio Wednesday is premiere night on WNKU out of Highland heights, KY (10 miles from downtown Cincinnati). Last night NNF was one of three new recordings added to the play list rotation. I am a volunteer at the station and happen to know that the music director is a big Susie fan. Has NNF been added to to the regular play list at any other station? WNKU is one of the best folk, acoustic, singer-songwriters, etc. stations in the country (Natalie Merchant playing right now), and only one mile from my house! Friday morning is request time. I can now request something from NNF. http://www.wnku.org They webcast.... give them a listen *S* Robert p.s. All of us who were at FR2001 know how impressive Susan's performance was. I'm sure that many people listed her as one of the performers they would most like to see return in 2002 on their festival review forms (I was one, of course). Bingo. There are exceptions (how many consecutive years was Greg Brown there, 8?), of course, but generally they like to mix it up a little bit. Falcon Ridge isn't the be-all and end-all of the summer festival circuit, either. There's always Philly, and, um, Newport... there are bigger festivals out there that will give her even more exposure. Just because she gives FRFF a miss doesn't necessarily mean she's going to skip all the festivals this summer altogether. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 18:18:09 -0800 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: This Just In ! Sharon, CT (AP) - Falcon Ridge Folk Festival announced today that Susan Werner would not be on the bill this year. "The reason was public safety," said Anne Saunders, festival spokeswoman. "We received information that thousands of true Susan Werner fans were running from her new CD, New Non-Fiction. After consulting with our security experts, we determined that thousands of true Susan Werner fans running from the merchandise tent would seriously jeopardize the safety of other festival attendees." According to Saunders, Ms. Werner will be invited back after the furor over New Non-Fiction dies down. Salt Lake City, UT (AP) - The U.S. bobsled team announced today that they will place a copy of New Non-Fiction by the starting line of the bobsled run. "We are all true Susan Werner fans, and having that CD near the starting line will make us want to get down the hill much faster," said a team member.
