If so, delete now. I, on the other hand, really enjoy putting together my opinions in the form of these lists every year, and I really enjoy reading other's ideas of what caught their attention during the year. I've never posted my year-end list here on 'believers' before, but considering my pick at "#1", I couldn't help myself this year. Here's my opinion: Richard's picks - Best CDs of 2001: 1 new non-fiction - Susan Werner 1 Every Single Day - Lucy Kaplansky 3 First Sessions (EP) - Norah Jones 4 Time (the Revelator) - Gillian Welch 5 Essence - Lucinda Williams 6 New Favorite - Alison Krauss & Union Station 7 Barricades & Brickwalls - Kasey Chambers 8 Fan Dance - Sam Phillips 9 Whole New You - Shawn Colvin 10 Time* Sex* Love* - Mary Chapin Carpenter Runners up (alphabetically): Avalon Blues(songs of Mississippi John Hurt) - various Drum Hat Buddha - Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer Better Day - Continental Drifters Down from the Mountain (Ryman 5-24-00) - Hartford, Krauss, Welch, etc. A Man Under the Influence - Alejandro Escovedo Twilight - Caroline Herring Birds - Jenifer Jackson Positively Live! - The Kennedys Love, Shelby - Shelby Lynne Buddy & Julie Miller - Buddy & Julie Miller Little Sparrow - Dolly Parton The Sugar Tree - Amy Rigby Blue Boy - Ron Sexsmith Songcatcher (soundtrack) - various Songs in Red and Gray - Suzanne Vega Shifting Sands of Time - The Wayfaring Strangers Instant Classic DVDs: Down from the Mountain (Ryman 5-24-00) - Hartford, Krauss, Welch, etc. American Roots Music (2) - various (4 hour PBS series) Honorable mention DVD: Steady Pull - Jonatha Brooke I hope that this full featured DVD (both audio-DVD and video DVD on one disc) will act as an example to be copied and expanded upon. Jonatha includes a video for each song, as well as interview chat, and other extras. A good idea! Most eagerly anticipated CD of 2002: Norah Jones full-disc debut. I don't know the title yet, but it is expected sometime in February 2002, on Blue Note. Norah is going to be a star! There's my picks. What are yours? At #1, I kept waffling back and forth between Lucy Kaplansky and Susan Werner. So, I just made them both #1. ~Richard Hill HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Dec 2001 22:26:36 -0800 (PST) From: Simona Loberant Subject: Re: Mountain Stage The mountain stage show is worth a listen (its usually always worth the listen) and with susan werner AND pierce pettis its definately worth it today (fred eaglesmith, oh susanna and some other folkies were on as well) . I only regret having missed the live show at the beginning of the month featuring dave carter and tracy grammer. Also, if you're on www.mountainstage.org you can find out which stations broadcast online and at what time (so if you missed it in your area you can still listen up until monday) and mountain stage is on television too. I have no idea if this particular show will ever be on tv, but there is a listing of the stations around the country that do carry it and the times they carry it at. happy listening. Simona L.
