Last Sunday, after deciding that it isn't likely that anything will still be released within the next month that will change the outcome, I went ahead and put together my picks for 'Best of 2001'. This has been a very good year musically. Many more quality discs came out this year, compared with an average year. What was at the very top of my list, tied with one other at #1? *new non-fiction*, of course. I _love_ this disc! It hit me immediately as my new favorite of all her discs. I placed Susan's disc ahead of A LOT of VERY good discs that I'm crazy about. That is $16.00 plus $3.00 shipping. The price is way too high, excessive in my view. I can buy two new release CDs at Circuit City or Amazon.com for almost that price. Susan's fans will buy the disc from her at shows for less money. I'm just curious who do they really think is going to spend nearly $20 to buy this disc on her website? Is there really a pool of Susan fans without access to an upcoming show that must have this disc immediately? Who else is going to her website to start with but fans checking tour dates and other Wernerisms? I'm not going down the Susan management bashing road but shouldn't the price be low to attract new listeners who would come to the shows and buy the back catalog of CDs? I'm no expert here but this new website strategy doesn't sound right. Yahoo! Anthony: The typical price for folk CDs of this kind is $15. $3 shipping is not out of line. This particular CD is $16, I'm not sure why. Susan's fans have been willing to spend between $19.50 and $20 for the CD from other listmembers who have picked them up at shows. I don't know where you're going to find new releases for $10 each. In my experience that's the typical price for a used CD. > Susan's fans will buy the disc from her at shows for > less money. As I said, it will cost them $16. If they can't get to a show they gladly will pay $19. > Is there really a pool of Susan fans without > access to an upcoming show that must have this disc > immediately? This "website strategy" is not new. Everyone, including Susan, does it. What was surprising was that it wasn't available via the web to begin with. Now Anthony, let's talk turkey. You've already said that you don't like the CD and that you're going to put it on ebay, where you would probably not get much for it. Isn't your view that it's priced too high somewhat influenced by the fact that you don't like it ?
