We seem like a fairly literate group, but there is a proliferation of misspelled words in our posts. We don't want people new to the list to think we are cranky, negative and poor spellers do we? LOL " characture"? Ron, I told you you'd take fire for that comment... Go Yankees!!!!!! Here's a couple of additional items. 1)Rj's post to the list which got him booted was a direct result of a post I sent to him privately RE: posting private e-mail to a public list. The rules are the same for everyone, and as always, I'll warn before I boot. 2)I have no control of mail sent privately. If you receive harrassing mail,as the recipient, you have a right to forward that mail to TOS@aol.com. I seriously doubt if it will do any good, but you never know. 3)I'll do my best to keep RJ off the list, but it's difficult to do so if he chooses to use an alias from a another account. 4)I suggest you block him if that is an option, or put him in your kill file. 5)The rules are those commonly accepted for lists. No forwarded chain letters, no overt spam (but feel free to promote your own gigs, CD's, favorite artists and other music related items of interest to the group - it's all about music, right?). My only personal rule as stated many times, is be nice to each other. In the 4+ years that this list has been in existence, I've booted 2 people, well, that's not exactly true. I booted the same person twice. So I would say, I'm pretty liberal about the rules. I never would boot someone without a prior (private) warning. So please don't feel like you're living in a police state here. Free speech is real important to me. 6)RE spell checking. Puntuation and spelling don't count for a whole lot here. Why? If you look thru the archives you may find a post from Herself that bears a striking resemblance to sharong's posts. Sometimes I have to check the headers to find out who is writing me :-) And , hey, e.e. cummings is my *favorite* poet. Charlie (=}===# Make a great connection at Yahoo! This may be a stupid question/request etc... But how about if there was some mention on the case of the existence of a list serv is mentioned? I know that management is probably unhappy with recent strings... if they read the list at all. But, I know other artists have printed the subscirption email for list servs dedicated to them on the packaging of their CDs.... I would leave it alone, for a lot of reasons. My first thought was to say, "I go through that every night with my wife." Then I thought, "But I don't have a wife." I could have said, "girlfriend" but I didn't think of it, and then I would be accused of besmirching all women, and that really wouldn't be fair. Then I thought of the stereotype - but I didn't say "Jewish women," because that would have been too large a group. I said "Jewish American Princesses." This is a small sub-class of Jewish women with certain stereotyped characteristics. I don't think the phrase perpetuates anti-semitism because it's about a certain type of person more than it is about Jews. Plus I am Jewish. These jokes are part of American culture and I think they are basically harmless. When we reach a place where we can't have jokes like this, please put me to sleep. There is a Jewish woman comedian in LA who tells the typical "JAP" jokes but she adds a rebuttal. You would hate those even more, because the "rebuttals" continue reinforce the original jokes. I would give an example which most of you would like, but I'll refrain unless there is a huge demand. The Yankee jokes are part of the package. No one is safe. Now I'm waiting for a complaint from the "Society of Women with French Names" for my implication that someone named Charisse duBorgel would run the Red Light Cafe. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, November 01, 2001 3:36 AM Subject: in regard to recent events > in lieu of the recent rash of discussion.. disagreements.. discourse... > unfortunately.. i feel a need to add to the fray... > > and comment that i dont consider ron's about Jewish American woman > appropriate... it perpetuates a myth that is based on a characture and > based on antisemitism.. > though spoken in jest.. i dont think its funny or appropriate and dont think > it has a place on any list.. > > now his yankee comments... fire away > > sharon > > > > I danced a lot of nights until the grass was wet > It wasn't over yet > Round 'bout 3AM > you made a friend > And I followed a lot of idle crazy thoughts because > It's where the meaning was > Though I tried to find it every other way > > HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org > Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs > http://worldcafecds.com HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 10:58:12 -0500 From: Steve Murphy Subject: Re: in regard to recent events (the evolution of a joke) Ron, As a former member of SWFN ("Society of Women with French Names" - they kicked me out when I became an Irish Italian Male) I can assure you that your comment about Charisse duBorgel is within the acceptable range of political correctness.
