Last night I was doing a crossword and the clue was "Like the Girl from Ipanema." I started to write "T-A-L" but then realized that there were only three letters in the answer, and that the puzzle wasn't referring to Susan's song after all! "TAN" seemed to fit. So what is the Girl from Ipanema? I enjoy the fashion critiques and set lists like everyone else and I appreciate all those fans who take the time to write and post them. But a discussion of Susan's management is extremely important at this time. As a fan I am insulted by the decision not to sell her new CD online and to assume, quite wrongly, that my purchase of her CD is a "given" that can be used as a bargaining chip in record label negotiations. Sorry, but if you want to manipulate sales figures for the purpose of putting a higher royalty or cash payment in your pocket find another sucker. I'd urge fans to boycott the new disc if I thought it would breed reform but I won't. I don't want to hurt Susan at a time where I believe she needs our help, financial and otherwise. I think that following Susan's career for many years gives me both the right and obligation to point out to her fellow supporters that this is just the latest blunder by her management team who is content to milk slim profits from Susan's fans rather than take the time, energy, and effort to grow her fan base, give her additional royalty income by having other artists perform her songs, and capitalize on the power of the Internet, among other common sense things nearly every other performer is doing these days. Yes, I'm glad we notice Susan's new pants. I think the idea of a fan appreciation album is great----Susan would love it. But can't we also discuss the fact she doesn't have a record deal (obscene!) and her management is so arrogant that it feels we truly loyal Susan fans are merely pawns in their negotiations? I don't know about you but I deeply resent having my loyalty, my commitment, and my purchasing decisions taken for granted. They're working on it from their end, which has a much better chance of being successful than a bunch of fans spamming Car Talk Plaza. We've been requested to let it happen through the proper channels, which I'm more than happy to do. I'd hate to unintentionally sabotage getting to hear "Big Car" on the show. So let's lie low and hopefully we'll hear the song on the show soon! ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V5 #214 ******************************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
