Actually, I've been waiting for the CD to reach enough believer hands to pose this thought I've had for a while: we should launch a campaign to get "Big Car" played on NPR's Car Talk. They usually feature a few car-themed songs in the show every week, and the first time I ever heard Susan perform it I thought the Tappett Bros. *need* to hear it. Now, of course this won't work unless the good people at Car Talk Plaza have a copy of _New Non-Fiction_, but I'd imagine someone can rectify that, particularly since Susan will be playing in Boston in less than 2 weeks. Then all we have to do is go to http://www.cartalk.org/Mail/auto-music.html and tell them "hey, go grab that new CD you just got from Susan Werner and play 'Big Car'!!!" Go forth and suggest, good believers... ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2001 22:51:32 -0400 From: Keith Richardson Subject: clarification on management Simona wrote: > I'm not going to > claim to know SW in any way, but she does strike me as > a highly intelligent woman and I would think that if > she truly was unhappy with her manager she would find > another. Ani > might be the biggest star at the management company > and even she won't be as big as the not so talented > Janet Jackson or her weird brother Micheal. > I think this needs some correction. There is a difference between artist manager, booking agent, publicist, and record company, even if sometimes the responsibilities overlap. Susan's booking agency (Fleming/Tamulevich) also handles Ani and Lucy from the above list. But Ani is managed by Scott Fisher (with publicity by Tracy Mann), while Lucy's publicity is handled by Emilie Liepa. And as far as I know, Richard Shindell has no connection to any of this, being ably managed and publicized by Young/Hunter and booked by Tim Drake of Drake & Associates (except that RS and LK were part of Cry3, also managed by Y/H). I find it hard to fault Flem/Tam when we are talking about an artist at Susan's level (or any reasonable extrapolation). I don't know Larry personally, so I won't comment. But I will say that everyone an artist chooses to surround themselves with ends up representing them in a certain way; and these people obviously vary in their level of competency. I will watch with interest to see if any changes are made. This was a few years back, and the club's a great gig. They finally got her, but it was anti-climactic by the time it happened. And they loved Susan once they met her.
