Bean's aptly named "green space". Being originally from Maine, I'll take any opportunity to get back up to my native land. The "green space" is basically a teeny natural amphitheatre in a triangle of grass in front of the store and in between the parking lots. This may sound like a strange location, but it was a great place to listen to music at the end of a perfect summer's day. We got up there early in the afternoon and did a lot of damage in the store. (If anyone who is going to Falcon Ridge needs an extra 2-person tent, e-me -- we got a new one and so now have an extra. ) We were able to set up our chairs in a good spot early on, which is good because there ended up being a *lot* of people there. As he was introducing Susan the evening's host asked how many people were already fans, and most of the crowd cheered at that point, which was pretty cool. The set was pretty much the standard of late, with the inclusion of "St. Mary's Of Regret", which someone had requested prior to the show, and a lovely version of "Are You Lonely Tonight" late in the piano segment, before "I Can't Be New". The show was ASL interpreted by a local interpreter (who I later found out is an old friend of my brother's) named Merrill Troop, and she added a lot to the show. Susan was having fun watching her too, and it resulted in some absolutely hilarious banter in between songs. Troop was so deadpan even while signing very dramatically and artfully, that when she interpreted something funny that Susan had said it made it even funnier. At one point Susan asked if L.L. Bean sells any lingerie, and the answer came back "flannel". The sign Troop used for flannel implied head-to-toe covering, which got things off on a very amusing tangent. And during "Much At All", at the line "looking over the railing in the hall" she made the sign for "balcony" and then mistakenly made it into the sign for jumping off. :) That certainly added a new dimension to the song! The sound was excellent, too. All in all, it was a great show, and definitely worth the trip. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you at Falcon Ridge! ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V5 #135 ******************************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
