This from me: Last night I had the good fortune to attend a Darryl Purpose "house" concert at the Abbey San Encino, which is about 5 minutes from my house. The Abbey is a really interesting stone house built in 1915-1922 by printer/publisher Clyde Browne in a part of LA known as Garvanza (now Highland Park), which was a booming artist colony back in the early part of the 20th century. Clyde Browne was the grandfather of Jackson Browne. The house has remained in the Browne family since it was built, and is currently occupied by Jackson's brother, Severin, who hosted the show. The show was in a room called the Great Hall, which is actually a small chapel with a pipe organ, built by Clyde, built in at one end and a great fireplace at the other. Severin, a singer/songwriter himself, opened the show with his "co-conspirator" James Coberly Smith. There were many local singer/songwriters at the show. The Susan connection is that Darryl has co-written a few songs with Ellis Paul, of which he performed at least one, with whom Susan will be touring later this year. I am planning on attending Mariposa Music Festival Next weekend in Orillia Ontario and was wondering if anyone else out there was also attending. I am going solo (none of my friends share my love of folk and the great outdoors) and volunteering. If you are going and are a friendly person perhaps you can tell me what I should plan on expecting at the festival. This is the first time I will get to see Susan perform live and am really excited.
