It was at the house of Lisa Turner who is a pretty good singer/songwriter in her own right. The event lasted 3 1/2 hours because of long leisurely breaks during which we chatted and ate. There were about 20-25 people there, mostly family and friends of Lisa. I may have been the only "outsider" there. I enjoyed talking to several of Lisa's friends. Caroline is based in Atlanta. She has a great bluesy voice and her stuff is very bluesy and rocks. She is clearly an experience performer. I am not very familiar with Bonnie Raitt, but Caroline seems to have similar tastes and vocal quality. Her guitar playing features a lot of catchy repeating bluesy riffs. Caroline knows Bonnie, and Bonnie has appeared on her CDs. I really enjoyed talking to Caroline about guitars, tuning, and lots of other stuff. Caroline mentioned she was on a Kerrville CD and I asked her if she knew Susan Werner. She told me she was at Kerrville for the last five years, but missed this year. She does know Susan and is very impressed with her. She said to say hello to Susan, so, Charlie or PB, could you please get the word to SW that Caroline Aiken says hello via RR? Lisa Turner did three or four really good songs. A couple had some melodic features that reminded me of Dar Williams. She has a son 17 and a son 11, and they sang some nice harmonies with her. Then, Lisa, her two sons, and their father got up and did an a cappella version of an English translation of Sukiyaki. It was really great. They also did an Irish folk song with great harmonies. Caroline will be in LA and So. Cal. for the next week or so then heads to Nor. Cal. If you're in California check www.carolineaiken.com for details. (Lisa and Caroline: Thanks again so much for today's show. I'm sending this to Susan Werner's email list. Gina: Thanks for turning me on to this!.
