Hi All,

Where is Falcon Ridge? What are the local accommodations like, i.e., B&Bs? 
How long of a car ride from NYC? 

I thought the Makor show was June 7th, and Falcon Ridge was July 27th... how 
one incorporates that span of time in one trip is intriguing.

Saw Suzie last night at the Turning Point. And as always, she was great. We 
saw the late show but we ran into Marjorie and her son, Sharon G, George and 
Susan P with their friends in the restaurant before the 10 PM show. Food is 
very good there.

I am thrilled to hear the she will be in the recording studio very soon, Jane 
says it will take 9 days of recording in Nashville. Suzie played a few new 
songs last night. She never fails to grow in her talent. The Muse is back. I 
think she's in love did not ask her though.
 
Did anyone record the show last night? I would love to have the new new stuff 
she is playing.
  
WOJ- any chance on a recommendation for digital recording equip?

How to Win Points with Friends and Family (and How to Make New Friends)

out there...)

One month in advance of Susan's gig in your geographic area, contact the 
local daily newspaper and speak with the Arts & Music editor (if there is 
one).  Try to convince them to publicize the event ahead of time by referring 
them to www.susanwerner.com for biographical information.  If they won't 
publicize the event in advance, try to get them to attend the event and cover 
it there (and tell them to bring a photographer for impact).  Unfortunately, 
newspapers don't always have the staff to cover every event, especially at 
night.

So, YOU write an article similar to the one I wrote and shared with you, and 
submit it to your local weekly about 3 weeks prior to Susan's appearance.  If 
the editor agrees to print it, it can be arranged to have a photo sent to the 
editor.  

Your article should, ideally, appear about 2 weeks in advance of her concert. 
 Close enough for people to start making plans and not too far away that they 
put the paper down and forget about it.

Once the article appears, you'll get calls from long-lost friends asking if 
you will be at the concert.  You can email the article (as I did) to friends 
and organizations that you think would be interested in Susan's music.  (If 
anyone needs some help writing an article, I'd be happy to assist).  You can 
photocopy the article, once published, and post it places and pass it around 
at local meetings.  You could also invite a bunch of friends who haven't seen 
Susan before, to sit at your table.

At the event, you can look around at the faces of your friends and watch them 
smile as Susan sings her lyrics. You'll see them nodding to you from across 
the room.   You'll see your cousin smiling and tapping his fingers on the 
table. Afterwards, several people will come up to you and thank you for 
turning them on to Susan.  A couple will call you the next day and rave about 
the late show (you might have gone to the early show, as I did) and mention 
that others in the audience saw your article, too.  

Susan was great last night in Piermont, NY.  I knew she would be!  I'm so 
happy that my friends had a great time, as I did.

I've gotten a lot of questions about Falcon Ridge Folk festival, so 
here are all the relevant links.

The following site is maintained by Sean Kelly at MIT and give a 
wealth of information about what to bring, what to wear, the weather, 
as well as pictures and ride sharing information.

Ron asked if I recommend buying a camping ticket even if you aren't 
camping, and I do, emphatically. The music goes on all night 
somewhere on the camp grounds. The performers often tour and play at 
various campsites. Who knows who might show up :-). And there's lots 
of great music by the campers, folks you won't here anywhere else 
this year, but very possibly will hear on the radio, or at a show 
very soon.

And please check the ride sharing pages. Some folks are gonna have a 
long ride, and it's nice to share it with new friends if you have the 
room.

For the campers, please note. You can drive directly to your campsite 
and pitch your tent next to your car. Ya don't have to lug a thing.

I'm sure that Meth and Woj, who do yeoman service keeping the bytes 
flowing on this server will be there, and maybe Jeff Wasilko, grand 
poobah and owner-majordomo@smoe.org will be there too. Sherlyn, are 
you on this year?

On Friday, things get started around 11 or so, with the showcase, 26 
artists selected from audition tapes, doing 10 minutes a piece. Then 
it's the Midsummer's night song swap with Vance Gilbert, Mary 
Gautier, and Jimmy LaFave, and Susan. 

Also on Friday are the workshops geared to musicians, and other music 
business folk. Some interesting stuff there.

Falcon Ridge will have the complete schedule posted in PDF format, 
hopefully in the near future, so stay tuned and I'll let ya'll know 
when it's available.

Hope to see some of you there, and as the festival approaches we can 
make plans to meet and swap lies :-)
