We did get there early (8:00) and hang out. About 8:40 started sitting on the stairs to wait, were the first ones in, and found a nice table up front which was not reserved. We sat down and ordered some wine, then the manager informed us that our table was MEANT to be reserved. By this time all the seats up front were filled or reserved. I explained the situation to the manager, and she set us up with chairs in front of the stage AND bought our wine for us.... very nice. And we got to sit next to Jane's brother! Double bonus! OK... can I just say... Susan sounded better than I remembered!! Was she in rare form or what?? I am basically speechless... it couldn't have been a better time. After the show we got to talk to Susan, Jane (in two second bits as she passed by), and even Charlie!! I could ramble on about all our misadventures, but I won't. And I never remember to bring a pen to write down set lists... I'm sure someone did though. Does anyone know anything about the last song? I didn't hear it sitting on the stairs at the end of the first show (or I missed it), and she also brought out a piece of paper before she played it... lyric sheet maybe? As for fashion.... black sleeveless with houndstooth flare slacks (reportedly purchased for $18 in a gay mens' shop in Chicago). OK, OK... I'll stop!! Just want to say thanks to Courtney and Meredith for their suggestions, and to Charlie for forwarding my mail, and to Susan for the show, and all the wonderful people we met, and all my fans... without you this wouldn't be possible.... Who says cowboy hats don't work? What a great night. Here's the setlists, but please help me with the titles, since I made up my own and am a awe-struck novitiate here. Early show (I missed 20 minutes which included Time Between Trains): Big Car (I feel like Patton rolling over France)/Mary Gauthier song Eye For An Eye/Misery -vs- Happiness/Jesus Christ Ain't I Lonely Tonight (with an abridged Brittany Spears cover)/Bonsai/Tall Drink Of Water/Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter/No One Needs To Know/My Baby Is A Light Sleeper/I Don't Miss You Much At All/So Nice Seeing You Again/I'll Be Your Diner/ENCORES:Standing In My Own Way (dedicated to Dubya, who Suzie mentioned "probably feels this way a lot," this was the culmination of a long bout of bush bashing. Earlier Susan said "Did you know that Ann Landers is now writing with her daughter? And Dear Abby is also. So when you read Ann Landers, you're actually reading Ann Landers AND her daughter. Seems like the same thing is happening in the White House...")/ May I Suggest (new tune I assumed since Susan had a sheet of paper she was referring to) Late show: All The World Is Moving Fast Find One Thing That Is Stationary/Time Between Trains/Petaluma Afternoons/My Famous Heartache/Shade Of Grey/Little Yellow House/Barbed Wire Boys (susan remarked "that's the closest I've come to writing about my dad")/Big Big Big Big Big Big Mother of A Car/Misery -vs- Happiness/Hello Amy Miles/Bonsai/Ain't I Lonely Tonight/Tall Drink Of Water/Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter/No One Needs To Know/My Baby Is A Light Sleeper/I Don't Miss You Much At All/So Nice Seeing You Again/I'll Be Your Diner/ENCORES:Standing In My Own Way/May I Suggest Going to the show would have been enough, but I re-acquainted with Jim Boylan who drove down for the show from Staten Island! Yes, serendipity rules because NOT ONLY did Jim grow up one block away from my childhood home, but we went to the SAME Catholic grammar school and we had the same teacher, Sister Carmelita, who spanned the gap from the 40's to the 70's. Unbelievable. I introduced myself to George, who seemed like a very important personage. No sign of Dave, though we were all looking for him. I somehow honed in on Charlie S. and asked if he were himself. I missed him at first because I was looking for the fat guy I saw on the something black web site. Charlie is looking different now (Go Charlie!) and promised me a rendition of Sweet Home Alabama.next time I catch his band live, which will be the first time. Susan and I worked at the same Borders Book Shop here in Philly (me for 4 years and she...? years is all I know) which is going to be imploded next April. Susan is an awesome performer and a consummate repartee-er. I'm now officially hooked and swinging my noisemaker. She is playing at the venerable Concert Under The Stars in King Of Prussia in May. Kaskela" Subject: Tin Angel No-Show Hi All- Sorry I missed all of you (and especially Susan) last night!! I had four tickets (and dinner reservations) for the early show which I gave away to some very good friends. SAY WHAT??? My 16 year old daughter's ice hockey playoffs were scheduled at the last minute for 5:15 and 7:00 p.m. last night. And tho' I'd go anywhere and do anything to see a Susan show... sometimes you just have to set your priorities. By the way, Bridget's team won their playoff and went to the finals (Sunday @ 2:00 pm) as the top seed. And today they won the league championship in a 1-1 tie (my daughter scored unassisted for her teams lone goal), followed by a scoreless overtime and a 20 ahot shootout which gave them a 3-2 win!!! There are just some things that are once in a lifetime... Sounds like I missed two great shows, but I will get to enjoy them since I got **** SB tape of both shows!!! And Dat's All Folks! Hockey over Susan???? Reminds me of a couple years ago, when the Dallas NHL team was in the finals and I was at a club to see Bill Maher do his Politically Incorrect - tinged standup routine. The club delayed his show for almost two hours (past midnight) while the game went through three overtimes -- boy, was he pissed!!!!!! That's how I read into it. I mean, your question was a little absurd. You want to get into a concert and it's all sold out, so you ask "What to do?" He says, "Call earlier next time." I thought it was funny. I have a suggestion: Dress up as a cocktail waitress (or waiter, depending on how nice your legs look) and pretend that you're working there that night. Or, arrive early and say that your name is Mr. Smith. If that doesn't work, say your name is Mr. Jones, Mr. Johnson, Mr. White (and so on until they let you in!)
