Sorry to post this to the whole list....disregard if you're not from Chattanooga....Lee and anyone else from Chattanooga--are the Riverbend schedules out yet? I know it's early in the year, but I feel so out of touch since we moved to Murfreesboro last June! Please let me know if you find out if/when Susan's coming, and anyone else who sounds interesting (especially ones playing on the Bank of America stage--I always enjoyed Christine Lavin when I saw here there). We'll likely be there the first weekend at the very least--Tony's excited about driving down to see Jo Dee Messina on opening night...she's one of the ladies on his "list"! Visit My Home Page! Yahoo! The woman next to me had come all the way from Madison, Wisconsin to hear her, so I figured she had to be pretty good.B Wow.B She was fantastic.B She already has four CDbs out so why havenbt I heard about her?B Ibve just been too busy working and taking care of the children. bTime Between Trainsb is the title track to her most recent CD.B bIbm waitinb at the station/I can choose my destination/Ibm a free soul, I got no chains/but itbs a long time between trains,b sings 35-year old singer/songwriter/musician Susan Werner.B Whether itbs an analogy of her professional career or her love life (I identified with the latter), itbs a song for anyone who feels strong yet a little insecure.B She pokes fun at herself: band somewhere lovers smile their smiles/while I count the ceiling tiles/and, well, give or take a few/therebs one thousand fifty two/but that depends if you include the eighty eight out in the hall.b But my toes finally thawed out when she sang her next song and her guitar rang out bPetaluma Afternoonsb, a melodic pop tune that warmed me with bwhen the light comes pouring in/the buttered sunshine on your skin/is full of love and vitamins/and they always end too soon/these Petaluma afternoons.bB And bPortlandbs nothing but a downspout/ Seattle is only sailboats in the rain/so drag your feet in California/God knows you got nothing to explain.bB As a performer who connects with her audience, shebll toy with her lyrics and Seattlebs sailboats become bSeattle is only earthquakes in the rainb&b Ibve never heard such great voice, guitar and piano all coming from the same person and with lyrics that are brilliant yet everyday in their simplicity.B "(You're like) A Tall Drink of Waterb is a soft jazz piano love song. And if you think you like love songs, "Snow White" will remove any doubts. bMaybe if I Sang Cole Porterb is a song that suggests things she could do to attract the attention of the one she loves: bb&Maybe if I grew my hairb was predictable, but as soon as you try to predict Susan she sings, bb&Maybe if I spoke some football/Maybe if I waxed my car/Maybe if I chewed tobacco/Believe me I would go that farb. Raised on a farm in Iowa, Werner started learning guitar at age five, piano at age 11, and went on to earn her Masters in Classical Music at Temple University in Philadelphia.B After graduation, despite her training for an opera career, she picked up her guitar again and landed several club gigs followed by national tours.B Susan continues to tour with various artists more than 200 dates a year. I bought one of her CD's right then and there and as she was signing it for me, I asked her when she would be coming to New York. Her face lit up and she said, "In April, I'll be at The Turning Point in Piermont." "See you then," I said.B And I thought, bWow, I have to tell my friends.b And so here I am. (In box): Susan Werner Friday, April 27, 7:30 and 10pm The Turning Point in Piermont 845-359-1089 some tickets still available at press time HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V5 #61 ****************************** --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
