I just signed up on this list. Got confused the last coupla times I received a "believers-digest" list.. (thought maybe I got a religious email by mistake). :O) I have never seen Susan Werner in concert.. though I missed her by a coupla days when she played at a small brewery nearby in Sebastopol, CA. I'm not sure how I heard of her. I think I might have stumbled across her when I saw the song on the back of her CD: "Petaluma Afternoons". I live in Petaluma.... so experience Petaluma afternoons everyday. Sure love that CD. Don't know any more about her. But will learn more from this list. Just wanted to poke my head in and say "hellooOoooooOooO". Susan is awesome. Unfortunately the closest she gets to you usually is Berkeley. It's interesting that Petaluma Afternoons has become one of her concert staples. Only a few songs fit into that category. She always changes the part about who's on the radio: on the record it's Doobie Brothers, but it's been Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilara, Carlos Santana, maybe Jerry Garcia (interesting that all the ones I know about are hispanic). She always makes interesing faces if she's not too fond of the artist that she names. At the recent Santa Monica show, and I presume other shows, Susan has changed "Seattle's only sailboats in the rain" to "earthquakes in the rain" preceded by a great facial expression. Petaluma Afternoons has made for some interesting banter between Susan and the audience at shows: you know, the usual, chickens and arm-wrestling always come up. Susan used to like a lot of back and forth with the audience - often involving put-downs of various small towns. Her last show here in LA was more self-contained, almost no audience input. I've always wondered if the song is about a true story that actually took place in Petaluma and if so who she was hanging out with that day. One time someone on this list said that she was going to be visiting California from back east for the first time and for sure wanted to see Petaluma. I warned her that it was a great song but she might be disappointed in the town. ;-) If you love Time Between Trains, I recommend her other 3 CDs to you, especially Live at Tin Angel and Last of the Good Straight Girls. Used to be you could get these through www.songs.com but I just found out they are out of business. You might see if there's an alternative through www.susanwerner.com or maybe a kind listmember will pick some up for you at one of the eastern shows! - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Sunday, March 25, 2001 1:31 AM Subject: Petaluma Afternoons > Hi everyone!
