I'm Not Myself is one of the new songs which will appear in the "new old standards" cycle and CD, due to hit in 2002. The setlist that Susie T provided for 3/17 Mt. Kisco, NY looks accurate according to my sources, and the reviews for both shows leave little to be said. I've seen Susan something like 40+ times, and in these two shows I was able to hear 6 songs I've never heard before. Amazing. The new CD should be a real gem! I'd like to give a public shout of thanks to Steve Goldstein who has been working hard handling correspondence for the CDR tree; I have done it a few times before and it is an incredible amount of work; when we cooked this up late one night we had no idea what to expect; and things are progressing smoothly. Thanks Charlie for the additional publicity and the support to get us started. And rest assured, we have more great shows on tap; to follow, in due course. In it, her character is, if I recall correctly, revealed to be the reincarnation of Nefertiti; however, the filmmakers changed her name to "Nefertiri" because they were afraid that people would laugh if they heard a name that ends in "tee-tee." It's a good tune in concert, though.... when I heard it (the one time I've heard it ... for moving to Chicago, she plays out here less than when she lived in Philly!), I had a sense it was *intended* to be a play on or blatant derivation from traditional. (btw - what IS the traditional song that tune is taken from?) > * Perhaps Susan's next release should be a DOUBLE CD -- one of guitar, >one of piano????? Now THAT would be cool..... It has definitely been time for both of those for years, now! and doing it up in a double cd would be a great fantasy ... though I'd certainly take two separate CD releases within, maybe, 6 months or something too Regards, Carolyn Andre - ------------------------- candre@house-of-music.com Support Independent Music! It's a good tune in concert, though.... The first time I heard her do it (which i think was the last time she was at the iron horse last year), I wondered why she went with such a simple, stripped down song. I haven't asked her why, but i no longer wonder...the more I hear it, the more I adore it. In her oh-so-susan-y way, she takes such a simple song and makes it so very moving. The power of repetition and recoloring (hey kell, remember that stuff from songwriting classes?). Although, when she performed it last week at the Iron Horse, she added a new verse that I thought disrupted the flow. I don't remember what the lyrics were...perhaps someone can refresh my memory? The first verse starts "this yellow house has too many rooms," then she does a verse of just guitar stuff, then a verse of "Had me a good man," followed by a verse of "my sister's little boy's learned to say my name". Previously she had gone back to the first verse, but last week she threw in a new verse before the final repeat. This little light of mine, i'm gonna let it shine...
