All I can say to you is THANKS. But one question I would like added to these reports is WHAT WAS SUSAN WEARING ON STAGE? She's very sensitive about her stage wardrobe and I've been teasing her about this for years. Lots of fun here for the mischievous amongst of you who really want to have a good laugh with Susan after a show! Many of you report Susan "looking better" than she has in years----I'm just curious if she has updated her stage wardrobe too. So please include a fashion update with your reports from the road if you can. As for Susan's recent show in Seattle, she was wearing black pants/jeans, a black tank top, and an unbuttoned white shirt that was removed part way through the show. She commented that since she was in Seattle she probably should have been wearing a hardhat, too. One of the women in my group noticed what nice arms Susan had. I think the guys liked the tank top. Her music is so superb she could come out wearing a house frock and still be a crowd pleaser. Overall, she is just a real attractive person to look at. Great facial expressions. And my group of 10 people, 6 of which were new to the Susan Show, loved it. Susan @ Mt Kisco NY - N Westchester Center for Performing Arts This was my first non-Michigan Susan experience! It was nice to meet Jody Gill after talking to her at length about a month ago. B Got seats at a front table, just a little over an arm's length from the piano. B Guy named Peter Muller was playing piano before the show, and he was thrilling to watch! B At one point between songs he sort of muttered 'wow, they're actually LISTENING!' B And indeed we were, cuz he was fabulous! B Susan had snuck out into the back of the B audience to listen to him as well. ( I was wondering if she was gonna change clothes for her set, or if she was dressed in lime green jersey and orange pants on purpose, for St. Patrick's Day! ) Opening act was a duo, Too Human. B They were pretty well received by the crowd, but honestly, I didn't care for them that much. B Or maybe I was just antsy for Susan to begin, B I don't know. B I was surprised and discomfited by the fact that Jody was compelled to announce my presence, like it was a huge deal that I was there all the way from Michiganb&that was also when I found out there were whole table-fulls of other Believers in attendance (George, I never did get your e-mail!). Susan DID change - to the infamous red pleather pants we've heard so much about, and black tank top, and what could have been Spanish earrings! B B She looked great. B Jane was in attendance, too, so that was cool. She opened with 'Time Between Trains' ('I got plastic pantsb&'), then immediately asked the sign-language interpreter how to say 'Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder' in sign - a lead-in to 'Petaluma Afternoons' - with Jerry Garcia on the radio, letting the sun warm her frozen Hudson Valley Bones, and Seattle only earthquakes in the rain. Then: Another Shade of Gray Too Many Rooms Mercy in the Sky Shot Tower ('that will conclude the death and destruction portion of the show'). B She took a poll, asking if it was too much, to have Mary Gauthier's (who spells her name wrong, per Susan) 'Mercy in the Sky' followed by 'Shot Tower', and the audience gave the combination their seal of approval. B It really was powerful. B It was a thrill for me to finally hear 'Shot Tower' after only hearing ABOUT it on the list. Then: Big Big Car - B which she said would illustrate better than anything where she stood on the political spectrum. Misery Barbed Wire Boys - a new tune, a tribute to rural, hard-working salt-of-the-earth men. She spoke of non-fiction, and of how the 'Chicken Soupb&' books were simply out of control ('Chicken Soup for the pre-teen Dog's Soul), and then intro'd 'Sorry About Jesus' as being 99% non-fiction. Throughout, there was nice chemistry between Susan and the sign-language interpreters (I'm sorry, I forget the one woman's name, but the other one was Jody Gill). B After SAJ, she held up her palm and asked 'is this how you sign 'Michigan'?' - sorta cool for me, since that's where I'm from and that's how we ALL show where we live, by pointing to our palm. B She then demonstrated Cape Cod by hooking her arm. Then, one I hadn't heard it quite a while, which was a treat - 'Au Naturelle', followed by the always fun 'JC Ain't I Lonely Tonight'. I have to confess, the couple sitting at our table had never seen Susan perform live before, nor did they own any of her CD's. B They asked me which CD to buy (a question I hate, cuz it's such a personal thing!). B My favorite so far is still 'Live at Tin Angel' just because I'm partial to live CD's and I think it really captures her style so well. B Second choice (and a very close second) is TBT. B I told them just that. B So the guy goes and buys 'Live at Tin Angel' - and then spent the entire rest of the concert, after every song, picking up the CD to see if the song that had just been played was on the CD he purchased. B Sheesh, I felt sorta bad, but I think that CD stands on its own and would be delightful to him no matter what. B The fact remains that Susan was really concentrating on new stuff that night, none of which is recorded yet, so whaddya gonna do? B I should have told him that if he didn't love the CD I'd buy it off him! Then, the moment I'd been waiting for - the move to the piano. B I don't have a lot of commentary to add to the piano cycle, cuz I was rapt, and just stared and took it all in - I have never been that close to Susan while she played her piano stuff, and had a perfect view of her face and hands. B It was incredible. B She really was glowing -seemed so comfortable and happy and completely immersed in what she was doing. She did: Tall Drink of Water Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter No One Needs to Know Light Sleeper Much at All Nice to See You Again I Can't Be New (the title of which was provided by Jane) I have heard 'Much at All' at every one of Susan's shows I've attended (I'm not sure, but I think this one is number 9 or so - not that many, really, but she doesn't come to my neck of the woods that often), and it never fails to move me completely - the way it starts out sort of smart-alecky and snotty, and switches to rueful and a little more subdued, and ends so poignantly. B It's brilliant. Her first encore was 'Standing in My Own Way', and then to the piano for the final offering, perhaps called 'The Best Part of Your Life'. It was a great show. I am so glad I went! B George, Woj, Meth, and everyone else I'm forgetting, it was great to meet you all!! B Hold up your palm, facing away from you, and think 'Michigan Road Trip'!! B The Ark in Ann Arbor is a world-class venue - and Susan usually plays Chicago and Ann Arbor back-to-back - it'd be worth it!!! And thinking back to the Feb 2000 show, it was the same "dark pants / white shirt"... Which doesn't bother me in the slightest, by the way -- wear what's comfy!!! Granted, I think the "glamour shots" taken for LOTGSG way back when were pretty cool.... I recently had the pleasure of seeing Suzanne Buirgy at a local club, and for her show she simply put a red/brown patterned leather jacket over what she already had on...
