Please do not reply a second time. Keith Steve - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Believers, We are a small group of tapers located in the northeast US who have been recording Susan shows for several years and trading amongst ourselves. Thanks to Susan's recent policy changes and Charlie's cooperation, we intend to offer concerts to the list via a CDR tree. Read about trees: http://www.jmdl.com/trading/faqtree.htm taken from a Joni Mitchell site; for years these folks have been successfully distributing live music via "trees". Our tree will be CDR and DAT only, no cassettes. Tree members will need to purchase blank CDRs, mailers and postage; total outlay for all should be less than $5. For this cost of materials, you will receive a full SW concert (nearly filling two CDRs). There are two levels of participation in a CDR tree: (A) Those who are able to duplicate discs that they receive and send them onto others (this level is known as a 'branch') and (B) Those who want to receive a show but are unable to duplicate CD-Rs (this level is as a 'leaf'). The whole thing works on the generosity of the branches in spreading the music. We are undertaking a survey before we proceed with the tree signups in order to be sure that there are enough Believers who are able to duplicate CDRs and will volunteer to be branches in this tree. **There is no commitment required at this point; right now, this is a survey to determine the feasibility of this project. But please be sincere in your replies. If you wish to participate as a branch: please send a message before February 22 to stevemtl@somethingblack.com with 'branch' as the subject line; in the body of the message, please describe your equipment (i.e., computer burner, stand-alone audio burner, etc) If you wish to participate as a 'leaf': please send a message before February 22 to stevemtl@somethingblack.com with 'leaf' as the subject and leave the body of the message blank. Arrangements for DAT clones will be handled individually. Send an email to stevemtl@somethingblack.com before February 22 with 'DAT' as subject and the body blank. Again, there is no commitment at this point, your replies are for survey only. If there is--as we hope--enough interest and capability amongst Believers, we will announce the _actual_ tree signup soon after the 22nd. I'm part of the crew at Calvin's, so sat in on soundcheck, etc., and got to chat with Susan some... I told her about halfway through soundcheck, "Oh, by the way, you CAN play "Sorry About Jesus" here..." which got a big laugh... The Webmaestras were there, subbing for Susan, and videotaped the show for website clips to come. I also taped it, but missed some of the piano work due to paranoia about how much tape I had left... :^( But, I'll attach a photo from the show... It was almost a sellout crowd, I'd guess around 250... typical for Susan. Peter Mayer was the opener, from Minnesota... was his first time there... but he simply KILLED... excellent performer, but only did a half hour set, for some reason... but sold LOTS of CDs... Catch him if you can... Susan came on after the break, and did a "half guitar / half piano" set (which I can't give the setlist for at the moment)... Mentioned, "You'll hear some Old Susan and some New Susan, and if you haven't seen me before, it's.... ALL New Susan to you!" Started with a strummed version of TBT.... She did several new tunes, in fact... "Karla Faye" (with opening comments about Dubya vs. Clinton), "Too many Rooms", and others... and DID do "Sorry About Jesus", and truly acted out the "High school reunion" concept, facially... an excellent rendition of the song, taking the "religious offense" aspect of it almost totally away... Switched to the piano, and kept right on cranking out the tunes... and after an hour and half, it was apparent that she wasn't going to follow the normal "set / break / set" Calvin's schedule... ended the show with the piano cycle, then came back out for encores on guitar, ending with "Standing" and a cool rendition of "Everybody's Talking"... very nice... Didn't do "Bonsai", "Dow", or "Movie", though, which was surprising... Several friends were there for the first time, and all new converts (of course!)... walked away shaking their heads and smiling... Talked with the webmaestras for a bit, as well, apologizing for "scooping" them on the videos a few months ago... "OH, that was YOU!!!" "Guilty as charged..." Later on, when things were closing down, I had her sign the Calvin's memory/photo album, and talked with her some more about Kerrville - she's probably only there for one day, due to having a gig in Philly the next. A fun evening, all the way 'round... Good to see Susan again... Unfortunately I can't make the FtWorth show tonight, because I've got a 7AM flight Sunday... (ducking in embarrassment)...
