Yesterday you could have heard "Old Mistake" in the morning, and today "Rubber Glove Blues" and "The Great Out There", both on WWUH (91.3, Hartford, CT 06105). I first heard of Susan on the Midnight Special radio program here in Chicago. I visited her web site, bought one album, listened, bought the others and became a fan. The postings on this list are the most civil, non-crazed, caring and interesting than on any other list I subscribe to. I couldn't wait to actually go to a show to see what all the raves were about. This past Saturday, my wife and I went to Susan's show at Schuba's here in Chicago. WOW! I went in thinking I'd like her piano playing more than her guitar, but all my favorites of the night were guitar songs. She doesn't play guitar like other performers, that play one or two songs "acoustically" in the quiet part of their shows, her guitar is her orchestra. It was standing room only in this small club, wonderful acoustics, that Susan commented on and thanked the sound guy by name during the show. Her wit was everything I expected and more. I didn't write down the set list, but it was very similar to the ones that have been posted lately. In the middle of her guitar set she did the song about Carla Faye Tucker that was written by Mary Gauthier, very moving. My wife and I are now true "believers". She mentioned that she would be doing more Chicago area shows soon, because she liked being able to sleep in her own bed after performing. Great news for us. See you at the next one. The title is "Georgia" and the artist is Carolyn Dawn Johnson. The first line is "if I'm not over you by the time I get to Georgia, then I guess I'll be Alabama bound."
