HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BOTH DAVE AND ELAINE!!! Thanks for the awesome concert/birthday with Susan....It was so nice to have Susan back in town.......if only for a short while. I wish we could convince her to move home, but alas (for us) Chicago seems to be working out. I LOVED the pants....I may need to get some red pleather pants for myself :-) The show was great...the venue was fun.....it was nice to see so many friends out on a wendsday night ("Church Night" as Susan says). Nice to meet a few list folks I had not met before...Good to share Bernedette's first live Susan experience :-) And good to meet Stephanie from Temple...Thanks for taking the chance to see if it *was* me....I shudder to think what description Charlie gave you that you were able to pick me out of the crowd....probably something about my wonky fashion sense :-) Anyway............back to work. Some nice isolated moments from the show: - - The Britney Spears discussion that Dave mentioned. She sang a couple lines of "Oops, I Did It Again" in the middle "Ain't I Lonely Tonight", then when she walked over to the piano said "How does the end of the chorus go? I'm serious." Two girls sitting in front of me then sang the chorus (thus sparing me the embarrassment of having to sing it myself!). Susan then sat down at the piano and picked out the melody, then flashed her belly like Britney- LOL! Then she played the song in the style of Mozart, then in the style of Bill Evans! When was the last time you saw a performer mention those three people in one conversation? And with knowledge of, and respect for, all three of them? She continues to amaze me. - - I had a great view of the keyboard, which made her "Light Sleeper" and "So Nice Seeing You Again" even more entertaining-- you can tell she's having a lot of fun as she plays those bluesy patterns on the piano. > Mercy in the Sky "written by Mary Gauthier from Boston...I wish I had > written this song" on the effects of addiction on a woman's life - - This song went nowhere for me... until the last verse when I realized "She's singing about that woman Bush executed!" And sure enough, the next line was "Goodnight, Karla Faye." Then it all made sense. - - Second time I've heard "Shade of Gray," and now I can't get it out of my head. So damn catchy. - - She spoke of her move to Chicago and the differences between the two cities-- that Philly is easy to get around, and that Center City (where we were) has so much history, while Chicago had to be rebuilt after a fire and has a very different character. "And a lot of fire escapes!" She seemed content, but she genuinely misses the town and her friends. Well, we miss you, kid. Again, thanks for a wonderful party. And Happy Birthday again to Dave and Elaine! - -Tim - ----- Original Message ----- From: David S.
