Just needed to come out of lurk mode share this because I know there are lots of Eddie From Ohio fans on the list and the current talk about voting made me think of it... I was at the EFO show at the Birchmere on Friday, and Mike at one point had a great line... "of course, many of you might know us by our former name, The Swinging Chad. We changed it a few weeks ago, and we're glad we changed it when we did." BTW, to anyone who's not been there, the Birchmere really is a great room for a concert, perfect for someone like Susan, who just happens to be playing there the 25th! Sherlyn, great work on the new lyrics site... i love it! - -Terry - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Rosen" To: "Believers" Sent: Sunday, November 19, 2000 9:00 AM Subject: Re: Lyrics site has moved Nice new look! "of course, many of you might know us by our former name, > The Swinging Chad. We changed it a few weeks ago, and we're glad we changed > it when we did." At Makor on Thursday, Susan said something about the geography lesson we've all gotten in the past week or so. "We all know more than we ever wanted to know about the country of Chad." She also said something about having just two weeks ago played for a gathering of 3,000 people in Palm Beach, Florida. They were part of a group she'd never heard of before: Jews for Buchanan. (Not surprisingly, that got a HUGE laugh...) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 21:00:21 -0500 From: Bob Scott Subject: Susan at Gordon Performance Center I enjoyed seeing Susan (after a long dry spell) last night at the Gordon Performance Center in Owings Mills, MD. This is a very nice, small auditorium with perhaps 150 seats. Good point: They had a proper piano. Bad point: Susan was lit up and isolated on the stage (like Panda Day at the zoo) and couldn't really engage in her usual banter with the audience. She was co-billed with The Neilds, a female folk duo. Susan accompanied them on the piano for their last song. Set list: (at the piano) Tall Drink of Water* Cole Porter No one Needs to Know* Light Sleeper* Miss You Much At All So Nice to See You* (on guitar) Time Between Trains Sorry About Jesus Bonsai Shade of Grey* Too Many Rooms* The Dow Jones Song* Misery/Happiness* * = Not sure of title. Sort of a short show. I'm looking forward to next Saturday at the Birchmere for a Full Sooz Experience. The song is called "One Hundred Names", and is quite possibly the best, most affecting song Nerissa Nields will ever write. It's a killer. Susan's piano work on the album is brilliant as well. I wish I'd had the chance to see her perform it with them. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2000 14:26:54 +1100 (EST) From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Thanks... Kaskela" Subject: Susan at the Gordon Center Hi All- Bob Scott beat me to the post on this one (nice scoop, Bob) but I'll add my 2 cents worth! Finally got to see Susan again for the first time since July! Seems MUCH longer. Missed the Tin Angel shows the 27-28 of October due to my sons wedding (it was a close call!!) Started for Owings Mills from Philly @ 5:30. Got onto I-95 and had serious car trouble. Limped home and tried to decide if we could make 120 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes. So at 6:15 we left again in a second car. Averaged about 75mph and walked into the Gordon Center outside Baltimore just as the lights dimmed for The Nields. Actually it was Nerissa and Katryna Nields (minus the 3 Daves). And they were wonderful! If you don't know them you absolutely should see their show. Saw Conehead (110 Nields shows in 2 years- and I thought I had a serious Susan habit!). Their set list follows Jennifer Falling Down Best Black Dress Snowman I Know What Kind of Love This Is Mr. Right Now Jeremy Newborn Street This Town Is Wrong Easy People 100 Names Yesterdays Girl As per Bob's post, and Meths p.s., Susan joined them on stage at the piano on 100 Names. She played on this track for the album, If You Lived Here You'd Be Home Now, but this was only the second time she has played it with them live (the first time was in St. Paul). And Susan on a good grand piano is awesome. I was blown away be this version of the song, which I've seen the Nields, with and without the band, play numerous times! After their encore, Yesterdays Girl, new and unreleased, it was Susan's turn! Returning to the piano (and you can tell this is Susans real love) to start her portion of the show she launched into "the romantic song cycle" which logically flowed through Tall Drink of Water Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter No One Needs To Know Light Sleeper Much At All So Nice Seeing You Again When was the last time you can remember SIX songs on the piano. BTW, for those of you who can come to Philly for the 1-17-01 show, the Painted Bride has a Steinway Grand Piano. Would she treat us to that much piano again?? And if you would like to be on the guest list, please post me ASAP, since its invitation only. Back to the show. Moving to the guitar she finished the show with Time Between Trains Sorry About Jesus Like Bonsai Shade of Grey Too Many Rooms (Susans title for This Yellow House- "too many colors!" she says) Dow Re Mi Misery/ Happiness Standing In My Own Way and as an absolutely wonderful encore with Nerissa and Katryna joining her on stage they played the old Hank Williams, Sr classic I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry It was a terrific show in a great venue!! And it was nice to see our web meister, Jeff W And "Dat's All, Folks!"
