She did a great 90-min. set (which was similar to her recently reviewed shows in Northampton) in a lovely setting that Susan liked a lot, remarking "Why haven't I played this room before?" There was also a fine grand piano there which she enjoyed playing. I'm always amazed that other believers can recall entire set lists! Since my short term memory is nowhere near that good, I can only convey a few impressionistic deatils. There were several other believers present, including George (from Queens, NYC) who had the honor of being a special "guest host" for the evening. WOJ, Merideth, and Tracey were a few of the other long-distance trek-ees who braved heavy, holiday-weekend (all those "leaf peepers") Friday night traffic to attend. Reflecting on the recent presidential debates, Susan observed that Gore and Bush were both like "the bland leading the bland!" In an unrelated aside, possibly related to an episode of writer's block, Susan suggested that unless one's name were Buckley, one should never speak words like "dearth" and "a-priori" in public. And she was also curious to know where people would wind up if they crossed the Atlantic directly from Marblehead. The audience was clearly divided between Ireland and Portugal. Susan thought it might depend mostly on one's ethnic heritage. Any "geographers" out there who can clarify the point? In one other off-the-wall observation, Susan also noticed that "if you made the streets really narrow, it makes it seem like you have a lot more people living there!" It's amazing and endearing how Susan always finds something witty to say about every place that she plays. And finally, Moshman, who was celebrating a milestone birthday, received an impromptu performance of a special request from Susan as a birthday gift! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
