(Wighto, Roj?) Live stuff, especially video clips, is excellent advertising, because we all know the comparative sterility of studio work on CDs... Another thing that would be interesting would be "live action" tabs showing fingering patterns -- this is demonstrated most excellently on the Monte Montgomery website, at www.montemontgomery.com under the "learn the songs" link... I'd love to be able to tell some of the folks where they may actually hear some of what I rave about all the time, such as "Mysery/Happiness", "First World Woman", "Shot Tower", etc etc etc. Y'know - a discussion board would be kinda good to have there too. As a Christine Lavin fan, I have two discussion vehicles available to me. A smoe list and digest as well as a discussion board. Go here http://www.christinelavin.com and slide down the left navbar to "Discussion Link" to see what I mean; The discussion board itself is external to the christinelavin.com site. Something inside me leads me to believe that it's actually part of the Folkweb, but I'm not sure about that. Perhaps, if Susan is affiliated with Folkweb (for secure ordering and sampling) then she may already have a discussion board there and we just don't know it? We don't have that many discussions here, so why dilute it further? As you know, there is very little activity on the Christine Lavin list anyway, so I don't understand the need for two such forums. Steve Murphy responds: Well, because there are really two types of people. Some who like to join mailing lists (like us) and have the discussion come to them whenever it so happens, and yet others who like to go to the discussion, in a forum when timeliness is not required to keep threads together, such as a discussion board. A lot of people automatically look for discussion boards when they land on sites of interest. And then, through that, often find other modes of discussion that they can explore further. Personally, I wasn't the type to join mailing lists. I wasn't keen on the concept. I would always shy away from them because I thought they were conduits for spam. Well, I visited Susan's website after I saw my first Susan concert, seeking out the discussion board and never found one. After our second concert, same thing... I just gotta find that discussion board. It must be buried here somewhere. Found a link to smoe to sign up for the list.. but I didn't. Third concert, I was starving for some Susan discussion and I joined. A lot of people don't like to "join" things, they just like to drop by occasionally. These are also very interesting people who have interesting things to talk and ask about and I want to talk to them too!! My concern, however, is that we should get approval from Susan's management first in order to avoid copyright infringement and other legal issues. If Susan's management were to release a songbook of Susan's material, our homegrown tabs might be seen by her management as something that would undermine sales of any songbook. Other musician websites (e.g., David Wilcox's) have run into this issue. But assuming we get permission, I think a tab section would be great place to contribute and distribute tabs.
