Darrell produced it and played on it extensively. It might have been his best work. On the way home from a concert or festival, we often play the "wouldn't it be nice to see that artist play with so and so" game. After seeing Susan, one of us said "how about Susan and Darrell Scott". Never thought we'd see it happen, though. Susan is enormously talented as a singer and songwriter, and is a pretty good guitarist. In concert she frames her solo work with a lot of charm that really highlights her talent. On a recording, that charm is missing, as was evident on her live CD. On the only studio CD we've heard, they added a lot of canned overproduction that just did not fit her music. Darrell was able to understand her music fully and add just enough embellishment. He played on most of it and added an unusual assortment of other players. It is fabulous. Just as Sam Bush and Tim O'Brien never sounded better than they do with Darrell, Susan Werner really benefits from his talents. ***************************** HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 20:48:03 -0500 From: "Charisse D. I bought Darrell's first album and gave it away because it bored me. But I believe his strength is as a collaborator. I was not impressed with his production of TBT - it grew on me, but mostly because Susan's writing is so good. I think Darrell's website might actually be more biased than we are!!! Viva la Susie! Kaskela" Subject: Susan@Tin Angel Hi All- Just got in from Susan's show tonight at the Tin Angel. Since I was up all last night on a blue fishing trip this post will be fairly brief. Susan played just one show tonight in a venue wheere she normally does an early-late show combo. Is this a sign of things to come? Rich Maclin, owner of Seranno's/ Tin Angel feels it may well be. He indicated tonight that she may play a lot more multi-day, single show, engagements to ease the strain on her voice that two-a-nights bring. We'll see... Susan played to a sold out house (no tickets were available at the door even hours before show time). And the audience loved it! She played several new, and still untitled (formally), songs as well as others written over the last few months and lots of old favorites. Here's the set list. All titles of new songs are taken from her set list as written by Susan (given me by Jane) and conversation with Susan after the show. Do You Trip On Love Time Between Trains First World Woman Shade Of Grey Blue Guitar Too Many Rooms (called "Yellow" for This Yellow House on her written list) Sorry About Jesus Jesus Christ, Ain't I Lonely Tonight F*** You Northwestern (a U. of Iowa parody of the Northwestern fight song) Like Bonsai Dow Re Mi Light Sleeper Tall Drink of Water No One Needs To Know Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter Much At All I Won't Grow Up Misery/ Happiness Standing In My Own Way All Of The Above, None Of The Below You A few comments on new songs. Shade of Grey is a song about unsolicited advice. Too Many Rooms could hold its own on any country music old standards compilation album. Light Sleeper played on the piano ROCKS with honky-tonk energy. And You is beautiful! Thank you Susan!! On the new album... the first question on everyone's lips... Susan says soon (as soon as the record company buyout is completed) and her manager Larry Goldfarb says it's a question of what to put in, what to leave out (as well as the record company delays) And "Dat's all, Folks" Dave HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V4 #137 ******************************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
