Susan played this venue last August, and the owners were apparently happy with the results. Over half of the music was songs I'd never heard before, my favorite of which was a jazzy piano standard called (I think) "Long Tall Drink." I was also fond of "Another Shade of Gray (?)." One of the best parts of the boat cruise concerts comes at the end of the evening, when the boat stops still in the lake, everyhting goes quiet, and the performer sings under the starlight. Last year, Susan had Tom Prasado-Rao with her, and they exchanged songs for about 20 minutes. Last night, she only did a couple of songs, but they were stunning. As the evening wond down, I heard one woman exclaim, "she's the only performer I've ever heard who's better in person than on her CDs." But we knew that already, didn't we. My 16-year-old daughter, who normally listens mostly to Reba, has now heard Nanci Griffith, Kate Campbell, and Susan within two weeks...she liked Susan best. Christy especially was fond of the Dow-Jones song, and would love to have the lyrics to add to her "funny song repertoire." (She also does a mean "Potato Song.") Anyone out there who can help? It was a fine night. Hope I don't have to wait another year to see her again. Wish we were there. The song you mentioned is called "Tall Drink of Water." Susan's serenade on the lakes of central Wisconsin was indeed fabulous! I've had the pleasure to see, hear and speak with Susan thrice within the past twelve (or so) months. I brought friends to last night's and last year's concert cruises and to Susan's Cedarburg gig a few months ago. Susan performed some "color" songs including "Shades of Grey," "Blue Guitar" (I'm guessing at these titles) and a bluegrass tune she said she had written a couple weeks ago. It contained lyrics about a yellow house in which she sat and cried. In the middle of this set, Susan took a break from her set list when she saw some of us gazing out the window at the glorious sunset. Susan took full advantage of the opportunity and broke into "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof and then "Don't let the Sun Go Down on Me." The latter was the first of three songs that Susan performed (or at least alluded to) last night that my friend and I had listened to and sung on our way to the concert. The others were "I Think I Love You," before "Ain't I Lonely Tonight" and "Help," Susan's last song of the evening (one of the two she performed on the upper deck of the Chief Waupaca, under the stars). I was impressed by the number of new songs with which Susan graced us last night, however I was saddened to hear that her record company doesn't plan to release a new SW CD until next year (2001). Thankfully, I'll be able to experience Susan again before then, as I already have hotel reservations for LaCrosse, WI the last weekend in August. I look forward to (hopefully) meeting more of you there! Chuck Ellingson P.S. I'd like to get the address for that site with Susan's lyrics again too (as Bill has requested). I forgot to bookmark it before!
