I could care less who likes what music. Honest. Really. That's what makes it all so interesting - otherwise life would just be vanilla soft serve. After thinking about it, and reading all the posts, I've decided that the main reason the original unfavorable review of David Roth bugged me so much was this: someone posted a query, saying 'did anybody go to the 7/2 KofP show, David Roth was the opener, I really like him, how was the show?'. And it just seemed to me that, out of respect for that person's obvious liking for this artist, a simple 'he wasn't my cup of tea' would have sufficed. I didn't see the need to rip him up one side and down the other so completely. It's all tied to the 'my music defines me' theory so eloquently expressed by someone down the thread - so when you say 'he sucks' it can be interpreted as saying 'you suck'. To me the unfavorable review would have been much easier to take if it had been unsolicited. But when someone who's an obvious fan makes a specific inquiry, a little discussion-list diplomacy could have been applied. As far as making someone a tape to convince them of David's talent - Steve! - surely you don't, for example, try to introduce your gay friends to members of the opposite sex, since they obviously haven't met the RIGHT one yet, do you? ;-) So - thanks for all the messages - I won the contest as to who had the most e-mail to wade thru upon arrival home from Canada, eh?
