Higgins" ] That survey [Bill Page ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 18 Jun 2000 14:05:16 -0500 From: "Earl T. Higgins" Subject: Survey 1. Age: c. 37 (Just last Monday in fact) 2. Male 3. Single 4. Independent, but certainly Democrat-leaning 5. Children, None 6. Music? A little (ok a lot) of everything. All-time musical heroes are Sex Pistols, Warren Zevon, Shakira, REM, David Lindley, Faye Wong, U2, Susan Werner (well duhh), Nanci Griffith, Husker Du, Indigo Girls, The Clash, and Joan Armatrading. Latest favorites include Johnny Cash, Kraftwerk, Everly Brothers, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Tom Glazer, and John Prine. 7. Fiction; preferably historical fiction 8. Email generally, when face-to-face is out of the question. The occasional phone call is nice though. 9. I'll bring along something I'm reading or studying (usually Chinese). 10. I simply couldn't go back. I, and I suspect much of humankind, has never been richer, more at peace, had better health, and better access to each other and access our cultural and scientific heritage than right now. That doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement, of course. Besides, if I went back in time, what would happen to my copy of LOTGSG, et al.? 11. I'm afraid I'm as pale as they get. 12. Hobbies: music, mostly. travel, family, studying Chinese, aerospace history 13. Things that fascinate? What will happen to our notions of, and laws regulating, Intellectual Property in the "digital age", when said works are infinitely reproducable at no cost? Ok, so that's a little heavy, but bear with me for a second. Will artists and performers have incentive to produce great works, if the instant those works are released, they are available to everyone near a computer, free of charge? Because technology is leading us in that direction (Napster, Gnutella, FreeNet, DeCSS), and current notions of copyright seem woefully inadequate (dare I say even misguided) to address these realities. On the other hand, most of the great works of humankind were produced without copyright protection. Will artists be able to survive on income from live performances alone? What about composers? Authors? Will we go back to a patronage type system? Is the "record industry" as we know it, doomed? 14. Best Movie: The Right Stuff, Blues Brothers Worst: Eraserhead, The Blair Witch Project (ok, so it wasn't _that_ bad, but it was just soooo overhyped as to be just plain silly) 15. What makes a performance "stellar" in your opinion? Like Jesse Helms said about pornography, I know it when I see it, but I just can't define it. 16. Shoe size: 8 17. College graduate? Yep, BS University of Iowa 1986 18. I'm just workin' for the man. 19. Greatest fear for the future? Growing old alone and lonely (Isn't that kind of universal? Maybe not) 20. Omnivore: "if it used to be alive, I'll try it". 21. None 22. Online: 15 hours; TV 7 hours 23. Life after death? Kind of think not, therefore better make the most of this life 24. If you could vacation to any spot on the globe, where would you go? Drive from my house to Tierra del Fuego then via ship to Antarctica, then plane on to the South Pole! Since I'd never get to do that any other way, I'll take your offer! 25. Sizzle or steak? steak Earl Higgins HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jun 2000 23:56:43 -0500 From: Bill Page Subject: That survey I musta zipped right past this when it was first posted...sorry...
