I've been a Susan Werner fan since my first show in September 1995 and have closely followed this list since I went online a couple of years ago. Since I live somewhat out of the way, last night in Burlington, VT saw me at only my eighth show. Arrived in Burlington about 5:00 pm to a locked venue. Kicked around till six, (first class second-hand CD store down the street), walked back and saw SW in the doorway with guitars. Was told that they were just loading in and that the gig was at 8; good-bye. Back at 7:30 to be third in line and sat second row center. Show did not sell out; maybe sixty present of 80 capacity. Attracting an audience on a holiday is always tricky. Burlington Coffeehouse hosts its shows in the Rhombus Gallery which also serves as an art gallery and performance space. The walls are covered with interesting artwork and there are exhibits in an adjacent room. Sound is always excellent. Audience included a two month old infant (who did not escape SW's notice) and a couple of well-behaved children. All this made for the perfect listening experience. Michael Veitch played a very strong 25 min opening set. I bought his CD which includes duets with Susan and Shawn Colvin. Susan was looking beautiful: slim and trim, with short blond hair, perfectly clear skin, sparkling eyes, diamond shaped earrings, black blouse, black jeans. She was in top form musically too, but played a relatively short set of about 90 minutes. Set list with many new songs: Trip on Love (?) (written by Tom Kimmel) Time Between Trains (with 'Oprah' intro) (now 116 tiles in the hall) LOTGSGirls (I prefer the 'guitar' version she used to play) Shot Tower (?) Senate of Love (?) (with 'sizzle and steak' intro) First World Woman (?) Sorry about (Jesus) Dreamville (?) (maybe 'Another Sunday Afternoon'; about being unemployed) Dow Re Me (?) Tall Drink of Water (?) (piano, a few riffs of 'Summertime' as intro) No One Needs to Know (?) (piano) Maybe If I Played Cole Porter (piano) Misery/Happiness (?) Standing In My Own Way (written by Dana Cooper) - - encore - All of the Above/None of the Below (?) (wonderful song about SW's requirements in a boyfriend) At the encore Susan joined the audience and applauded herself. I have seen her sit on the edge of a stage and do the same. On entry, I noticed that the two front row center seats were reserved. A couple sat down at show time and I figured they were sponsors of the Coffeehouse. Wrong; the woman knew every new song and called for 'Misery/Happiness' a couple of times. Turned out to be Terez (sp), an occasional poster to this list who has been named the 'Jazz Lawyer' by SW. At Susan's invitation she added a few perfect notes to the attempted singalong for 'Dow Re Me'. My pleasure to have made your acquaintance. After the show, Michael signed my CD liner and Susan, who remembered me by name, signed my venue poster. Home for 1:30 after a perfect evening. Thank you Susan and Michael. Any other listers at that show? First time I'd seen him, and we chatted briefly about his "duet" with Susan on his CD... Call this a "2nd recommendation"... ...and I just saw that Susan's already scheduled to return to Calvins next February -- hooray!!!! (She must like winters in Texas...) Also... does anybody know if she's been stopping by in the Indiana or Illinois area? I'd love to see her live, since I'm new to her music and all... but from the sounds of it... she's not much into the Midwest! Kaskela" Subject: Feel What I Feel Hi All- Shaigirl asked recently about Feel What I Feel... Old timers to the list are certainly aware of the Susan Werner lyric page compiled and maintained by Sherlyn Koo. This is a great resource for any fan, new or old, with lyrics for over 50 songs posted. Many of these songs have never been released... and yes, the lyrics for Feel What I Feel are there! Also, check out Paper Airplanes, a song she has only performed once in public. The Site is located at (http://www.fl.net.au/~sherlyn/sw/) Thanks for the heads up, Charlie, on the additional shows. I had tickets already for the LisaBeth Weber benefit and just got off the phone buying tickets for the scholarship show this Wednesday @ The Society Hill Playhouse.
