Or, more likely, the folks at WFUV just aren't paying attention. Ah, to have woj's dilemma ... but I'm going to be out of town this week on business, so I'm going to miss everything anyway. :P +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Apr 2000 22:24:08 -0400 From: "David S. Kaskela" Subject: April Fools @ Tin Angel Hi All- Didn't get home from the TA shows till 2:30am, and arrived home in the middle of a neighborhood wide power outage. Hope "Better late than never" still applies to SW reviews! Dining out @ 5:45 and going to a 7:30 show is really disorienting for a night owl used to "late shows" but we did our best to act normal! HAH! And since we were going to both shows we figured we'd really be warmed up by 10:30 Erin McKeown, a Providence RI native singer/songwriter opened the show for Susan. Although the most frequently overheard comments were "Isn't she CUTE?' and "How old IS she?" I'll try for a little more substance in my comments. Erin is a wonderfully accomplished guitarist with strong elements of jazz, swing, and Nashville picking blended in a unique and powerful musical style. She's also a fine wordsmith whose lyrics run from witty and entertaining to poignant and sensitive- often in the space of a few notes. And the combination of lyrics and melody, expression and body language and the joy of performing are much greater than the sum of the parts. Although this was my first introduction to Erin in performance it certainly won't be the last since she is well worth seeing on her own. For me a real highlight of the night was the two songs she and Susan did together at the end of Erin's set during the second show, With Erin on guitar and Susan on keyboard they wowed us with 'Didn't They' feturing Erin's voice and guitar and 'You Got What It Takes (To Take What I Got)' featuring Susan's keyboard and vocals. Although neither appeared familiar with the others song selection, you wouldn't have known that from how halfway through they were able to jump into each others song in wonderful compliment. If you get a chance to see Erin, and don't, shame on you!! Oh yeah- she is very cute and she's 22 years old. And Keith- she said "Hi" Susan was wonderful as always. She featured a lot of recent additions to her repetoire (hope I spelled that right!) with a great blend of funny and sad, serious and irreverent, heartfelt and poignant interspersed with her trademard audience give and take. Here's the setlists- Early Show Do You Trip On Love Time Between Trains Last of the Good Straight Girls Shot Tower Vagabond Mouth First World Woman Sorry About Jesus Jesus Christ, Ain't I Lonely Tonight Like Bonsai Dow Re Mi Tall Drink of Water No One Needs to Know Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter Much At All (w/ Walk Right Back instrumental ending) Misery/ Happiness Standing In My Own Way E) All of the Above (None of the Below) If Not For You Late Show Do You Trip On Love Time Between Trains Yes To You (Tappan Zee) Shot Tower Vagabond Mouth First World Woman Sorry About Jesus Jesus Christ, Ain't I Lonely Tonight Like Bonsai Dow Re Mi Tall Drink of Water Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter Blue Guitar Misery/ Happiness E) Standing In My Own Way All of the Above (None of the Below) During each show she said "All of the songs you heard tonight are my own except 'Do You Trip On Love" by Tom Kimmel, from Nashville, and "Standing In My Own Way" by Dana Cooper, also from Nashville." She then went on to say that the first time she heard 'Standing..' she ssaid it was the "story of her whole life" It was great to hear so many nerw songs I had only heard about... and till next time "Dats All Folks!"
