I got a note from my friend that was on the Kerrville Cruise, and thought I'd forward the pertinent parts of it... Paul >>>...It was a wonderful time. The dive off Cozumel was the best I've ever seen - 60 feet to a reef, with a wall that dropped out of sight. The sealife was thick and colorful - like swimming in an aquarium except that the creatures were much bigger. The bus tour on Roatan Island, Honduras was interesting - alot of folks living there to escape the corporate routine - same for Belize. The tourguide in Belize was phenomenal, and the trip to the Mayan ruins quite enjoyable. Unike some of our fellow travellers who opted for the horseback riding.... A few people were thrown and one was trampled! Then there were the folks who opted for the rafting - where a raft of about 30 people flipped, landing them in fast-moving water. One woman was carried back onboard on a stretcher. Overall, I think our climb to the top of a ancient temple was the more enjoyable experience, enriched by an introduction to the allspice tree and its medicinal qualities, and an inspection of a colony of leafcutter ants, among other natural wonders of the area. Tom Kimmel started out the trip with a bad cold, or maybe it was flu. He went to the ship's doctor and got antibiotics, and several of our fellow Kerrverts supplied him with medicinals from bee pollen to clove to massage. By the end of the trip he was doing well again. He didn't miss a meal - no effect on the appetite - but he slept through all of our South American ports of call. We ate at a table with Tom K, Rod, Vaughn, Lela(has been to our house, good photographer), Schmitty (lives in Kerrville, pro photographer for the local paper) and Valerie (one of Rod's X's, very competent, variety of life pursuits). The table next to us, with whom we shared waitstaff, included Vic & Reba Heyman, Susan Werner and Jane and 4 other women. They called themselves "Vic's Harem" and were without a doubt the loudest table in the dining room. Ezra Idlet brought quite a troup with him - his wife and 2 children, and her mother and brother. We had a lot of very tall people around and it was kinda nice. The kids had a blast dong the beach thing. Sara Hickman brought Lilly and Lance (who looks uncannily like Harry Chapin) and they were quite the little family scene - some really good photos were taken. Lance adores Lilly and seems to have a very good relationship with her, although it'll never be like the one with Mom. She has the same smile - bigger than her face. Lilly got introduced to "Mom's job" on the cruise - didn't like having to sit in the audience when Sara was up on stage. But between Lace beside her and Sara on the mic, they got her through it. I understand Sara's due again in June... Ray Hubbard declared that he was a little short on the formal attire (there were 2 formal dinners) but he acquitted himself quite well in black jeans and a black duster. Not a hair in place. Our 2 concerts were on a stage in the bowels of the ship, where the rolling was quite noticeable and presented some challenges - like standing up and keeping your mouth in front of the mic. Susan and Jane played tag team sound engineers. We also had one picking circle - it was hard to find a place for, and we ended up crowding too many people into too small a space as it was. We had one good night of stargazing on the foredeck where it was dark. The rest of the time it was too windy out there. Tom got a good view of the Southern Cross and Omega Centauri early one morning while I was sleeping. I have a couple new Susan Werner stories...More later. I need to close this down and go to bed!<<<<< HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Feb 2000 17:06:23 -0500 From: "Charlie Sweeney" Subject: Lots o' notes from the cruise Hi all, Vic Heyman, that guy who sends you those schedule cards for your favorite folkies, spent the Kerville Cruise in very good company. Attended a matinee at the Century Theater in Detroit MI - a performance of 'Forbidden Broadway Strikes Back'. (fyi - the Forbidden Broadway revues are a series of parody shows, written by Gerard Alessandrini, poking fun at current and past broadway productions). It was a great show, all performers top notch. The strange thing was, one of the female performers, an amazingly versatile singer/actress from Boston named Danica Connors, bore an eerie resemblance to Susan W. I mean, I know it wasn't her, but it coulda been her twin sister, voice and all. So imagine Susan parodying Ethel Merman, Barbra Streisand, Carol Channing, Mrs. Potts (Beauty and the Beast), Mimi (Rent), and a blade of grass (The Lion King), among others. Pretty weird, huh? If you hear of it playing in your neck of the woods by all means check it out, you'll be glad you did.
