["Murphy, Steve" Subject: Rochester: 12 Corners Coffee House Hey folks (yeah, she IS still alive)! I went to the coffee house last nite to see Susan (*smirk* drove 6 hrs to Philly to see Fruvous, crashed, drove 6 hrs home to see Susan... life's good). I don't have much in the way of a set list, i was gonna try and jot things down, but i was too busy watching my friend Julie fall in love with Susan (her 1st show, she'd heard one song on some radio broadcast) High points that I remember: * she inquired about Rochester's "name" (Flower City), and find it amusing (and strange) that it used to be the Flour City (Because of the flour mills) and then became the Flower City because of the Lilacs. "Oh well, at least this way you have all bases covered" * she commented "I just took 4 advil for this headache so I'm a little... and if in the middle of a sentence or something there's a moment where... oh, we just had one, anyway..." * the thing I love most about watching Susan perform is her face... the expressions she makes are priceless and add another facet to the interpretations of songs... * Songs I remember (in no particular order): Petaluma Sorry About Jesus Time Between Trains Ain't I lonely? Much at All Dow Senate of Love/Gypsy Lips, et al Brazil/Spider Monkeys Maybe if I sang Cole Porter Movie of My Life (slamming the Matrix and John Grisham as the nothing movies and books) Me and Mrs. Jones Born a little Late This BEAUTIFUL song in French... was it _The_ French one? There were more, I know I'm missing some... but i'm still brainfried from too much roadtripping. I've never seen a full length SW show, and man was I blown away. Julie had to leave, so I sorta had to chase Susan down to get her autograph... she remembered me (but not my name) from FalconRidge, joked about me driving in from seeing Fruvous in Philly. Hmmm, the opening act was this guy Bill Hillman (i think, or Bob Hillman or something). He looked like a cross between Brandon Lee with a Rob Lowe profile... he was alright, but all his music sounded the same and his voice was...ok. He babbled a bit, i guess he was a bit nervous... lost his guitar pick in the middle of a song, then broke it before his encore. Sadly, my thought after his 3rd song was "gee, they'll give anyone with a guitar and a handful of songs a CD contract, won't they?" Susan's comment about him, "what did you think of him? Wow... he'd really be something if he could just string a sentence together..." I'd actually like to hear him again, in the hopes that my first impression is wrong and maybe he'll grow on me like Sarah Slean did. Ok, back to bed... ciao! *wave* - --Angie ...there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path... - --Morpheus The Matrix ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com. Hi, I live in Seattle and have been cloaked (on the list) for quite some time. Even though I adore Susan and her music, I often feel like I have little to offer as much of the discussion seems to center arount seeing Susan live, which I only get to do once a year. So let me know how living in Western Washington is useful, as I live to serve. (and with good reason - - it's amazing!!!) after susan's first encore (which is "Me and Mrs. Jones" and a beautiful rendition of the Beatles "Help") the announcer guy came on stage and was ready to close the house, but people kept clapping and cheering. i could sorta see susan on the sidelines motioning to end the show but the guys didn't seem to know how to quiet the crowd and finally just shrugged..and a few seconds later susan reappeared for a 2nd encore to which she said mockingly "You people are cruel and selfish!" then she treated us to "the most romantic song i've ever heard. if any of you know french you will fall over dead because this song is so beautiful. i only %99 percent of it, which as kept me alive for so long" then she, with guitar in hand, stepped out from behind the mic and gave us "La Vie En Rose" off-mic...after which i was picking my jaw up off the ground....my gods!! what a voice she has!!!!!!!!! let's see...oh yes! susan also treated us to some brand-spanking new stuff that she says will be on her 5 th album (to come out "soon" - she also assures us that this next one will be alot more "happy" then her previous albums...i'm not sure how i feel about this, but it is susan, so i had all faith in her). she did one about "when you wash my hair" and commented that it might have been a bit too personal to sing...some guy behind me muttered a 'yeah' while a person to my right called out "I liked It!" to much applause and agreement. She seemed to take heart in that. there was another new one, but i can't really remember it that well...it was really nice tho! ^_^ she remembered me (but not my name) > from FalconRidge, joked about > me driving in from seeing Fruvous in Philly. after the show i went back and finally bought the "live at Tin Angle" CD and then asked susan to sign it. i had worn my fruvous jersey to the show and she took one look at me and said "fruhead!" to which i smiled shyly (why is it i always get VERY tongue tied when i have an opportunity to speak with someone so cool!) she said how she had a fru-jersey too, and i just stood there nodding dumbly..*ug*. but then she signed my CD with a drawing of the fruvous mascot, the budgie-dog, and i went away a happy (but humble) amy ^_^ it was an incredible nite overall! Susan's talent and voice just floored me (as usual) i can't wait to see her again!!!!! thanks for slogging through my ramblings ^_^ Amy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
