I will be going to see John Gorka and Carrie Newcomer this Friday at McCabes (Santa Monica). I'm not familiar with either of them, but I'm checking out other artists that I hear about on this list, partly to see if Susan is really the greatest of them all. ;-) Last week it was "eddie from ohio," and they have a new fan. I can't believe that she was THAT GOOD even back in '93. At first I was caught up by the Studio's of "So Heavy" and "The Great Out There" but lately two others have snuck up and bit me and I can't stop playing them (in my car and in my head); "Midwestern Saturday Night" and "Lullaby for One". I just love these songs! There's too much great music out there! Granted, Susan is awesome, and never-to-be-missed live. But I for one could rant and rave about countless other artists, too - all wonderful in their own way, as different from Susan as night vs. day. Susan is but one slice of the folk music pie. Okay, she's the biggest slice, homemade apple pie, warm, with ice cream; but only one slice nonetheless - don't get so full of Susan that you deny yourself all the other musical offerings out there waiting to be heard! ;-) Live Music Forever - All Flavors - Suzie Tee HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Nov 1999 16:18:07 EST From: PBCoustic@aol.com Subject: Re: offerings In a message dated 11/17/99 2:51:18 PM Central Standard Time, thiels@state.mi.us writes: << don't get so full of Susan that you deny yourself all the other musical offerings out there waiting to be heard! >> Oh, we're NOT... did any of us say, "Don't bother to go see XXXXX"????? I have no idea if it's a coincidence or if Martha's theme was taken from Susan or if Susan got her melody from something that was already out there. No, I don't usually watch Martha Stewart. Just happened to see it one day and went nuts trying to figure out where I'd heard the theme before. Unfortunately, both sets she played were exactly the same, save for the substitution of one solo song in the encore for another. Sigh. They were both great sets but I kind of wish I'd only gone to one... (I also can't help but compare it to the two radically different Susan Werner sets I'd seen two nights before that...) I monitor the list for business issues, like, "how can my group hire Susan" and for other personal issues, of which some of you are well aware. Jane also is on the list, and catches up on digests when she can. I recommended that Susan not be a regular reader, right from the start. However..... No one should be afraid to express an opinion here. This is your list, created for Susan's fans. I feel very fortunate to be on such a civilized list. I monitor about 40 artist and industry lists, and I know many of you do the same, and I hope you will agree this is a nice place to be. As far as Dar Williams is concerned, I am a great fan myself. The Dar list inspired me to start this list, and there are a fair number of Dar list people (mostly lurkers) sittin' here with us right now. I wouldn't presume to make any comparisons, I like them for very different reasons. My ideal supergroup (like CryCryCry) would be Susan, Dar, Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman. Maybe they could do a tour as "Cry2K" ;-) Anyway, feel free to discuss amongst yourselves....I'll give you a topic.....Music.
