She performed there last year on 11.01.98, and what a change. She was rather demure last year, and this time around she was full of jokes and laughter. One of the most engaging performances I've seen in quite awhile. Here's the setlist Love Down The Street Petaluma Afternoon Got To See The Body Senate Of Love (title confirmed with Susan, not "Gypsy Lips/Vagabond Hearts") Time Between Trains Sorry About Jesus Ain't I Lonely Tonight Spider Monkeys (not sure of this title) Dow Rei Me Love Her Alone Fall From Grace Why Do You Bother? I had never heard them before, even on cd. It was a lot of fun. I'm playing their new cd right now. I will definitely see them again when they come back. Julie has a wonderful voice. Lots of changes recently (especially in Lavin Links). Plus - her new album is available (and you can hear samples)! Take care, Steve p.s. Don't you think this is the kind of thing that lends itself to Susan too? Re: Senate of Love I won't disagree with you on the correct title to this song. After all, if Susan said it, it must be so! The Gypsy Lips/ Vagabond Mouth title was my choice for a list review of the song. The first time I heard this song was 7/17/99 at the WXPN singer/songwriter concert at Penn's Landing. At the time Susan either had not written, or simply chose not to include, the bridge- "I don't mind if you have a good time I want you to have a good time I don't know just what you're thinking of Are you running for the senate of love?" So I'll defend the Gypsy Lips/ Vagabond Mouth title based on common usage on the believer's list. Maybe Susan will consider changing it, so we don't have to!! In the same vein. In conversations with Susan and Jane they have told me that 1) Susan often does not formally title songs until release 2) Many titles are "working titles" subject to change 3) Susan's setlist (when written at all) titles are often only one word, ie: "Bad" for "The Year of the Bad President", just enough for Jane to know the tuning Susan will need. Another good example is the "Spider Monkeys" song you referred to in your post. I first heard this song 1/21/99 at Godfrey Daniel's in Bethlehem right after her return from Rio. She added an instrumental bridge to the song at a later date. When I discussed the song with her at the time she said it would probably be called Brazil or Shadow, but she has since referred to it as In Brazil I Had No Shadow or Brazil, for short. Literary license? A woman's perogative? Title of the day? Wait till the producer or publisher take their shot at a title!! However, to quote Shakespeare "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
