["Murphy, Steve" ] Susan Pix ["Charlie Sweeney" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 11 Nov 1999 13:18:15 -0500 From: "Murphy, Steve" Subject: How 'bout this for an idea???? Hello Believers, I enjoyed a most unusual concert experience on Tuesday Evening, and I have to share the concept with you. Since we're all on the internet, this is a great way that we could get ALL THE BELIEVERS to experience the same concert together, and entirely from the comfort of our own homes. No matter where in the world we are! In fact, I've asked Zoe the Venue director, to consider persuing Susan. And I wanted to see what you all thought about it. Of course, I'm being mighty presumtuious because it would have to be something that Susan would be interested in, and I hope she would; Jane or Susan... If you're out there, please read on! The Venue is called the "Virtual Living Room". It's on Widebey Island in the Puget Sound (in the State of Washington). The website is http:://www.electricedge.com/TestingTesting. The concert is broadcast over the internet (Audio only at this point in time, but they're working on Video, and it is my understanding that the TestingTesting Archives contain "Video Clips" so you can always see clips afterward). All of the shows are archived and can be accessed at: http://www.electricedge.com/testingtesting/archive.htm I couldn't help but notice that Susan's going to be in that area in and around Late Feb/Early March 2000 - Wouldn't a Tuesday Feb 29th "Leap Day" concert be just grand? - --- HERE'S HOW ZOE EXPLAINED IT; Every week on Monday nights, at 7:00 PST, TestingTesting, a group of music lovers here on Whidbey Island Washington, feature a local area artist along with the "TT House Band". We broadcast this "living room" concert over the internet LIVE via streaming Real Audio. People "guestbook in" and interact with the musicians during the show. Now, here comes the FUN part . Christine Lavin will be doing a TestingTesting Show here, *outside* the TT Living Room for a general audience on Tuesday, November 9th at 7:30 PST. For people who live in the general Western Washington area, she will be performing at the South Whidbey High School Auditorium in Langley, WA. and I hope we will see you there for this unique event where net-technology and Christine meet . For those of you outside this area, we will be broadcasting it over the internet and it would be great if you could "guestbook in" and say hello. - --- HERE IS HOW I, A VIRTUAL CONCERTGOER, INTERPRETED - --- THE TECHNOLOGY; This is my (abridged) review of - --- the Christine Lavin internet concert, as I - --- participated from my home! I cant even begin to tell you how enjoyable this interactive internet experience was, but I'll sure try! First of all; I was in awe of the technology that made it possible. Zoe and company really have a great thing going there at http://www.electricedge.com/TestingTesting. I never believed it would come across so clearly, but it was clear as a bell. . . Fifteen minutes before the show was scheduled to start, we were connected for good! So technically, there were no glitches! The house band opened and they were very entertaining. We started "guest booking" in our questions and comments. I bumped into several Lavinites out there! Christine came out and opened with ONE SMALL VOICE and as always, it was wonderful. Then - the beauty of the "interactive concert" hit home. In between songs, Gordy "the Web guy" would read the questions and comments from the guestbook out loud to Christine and the audience. . . After (or before, I can't remember) PLANET X, Christine told the audience that she'd give something to the person who had the highest grade in Astronomy. This was so surreal. I quickly guest booked in my "Grade", seconds later, Gordy is saying "This came in from Steve & Karen Murphy of Nashua NH" and then we both almost fell out of our chairs when Christine (seeming surprised and probably still experiencing Twilight Zone kind of feelings about the whole thing) said "Steve and Karen Murphy? I know them! Hi Steve and Karen!" then she said "We partied together at the Charles Hotel. They introduced me to Crispy M&M's.... It was a chocolate party! Whew!" . . During Intermission, she kept the mike on so we could all hear the conversations while she chatted with the guests. It was classic! It made you feel like you were eavesdropping.... and you were! . . She closed out with SHINING MY FLASHLIGHT ON THE MOON and then the DREAM/A SUMMER SONG medely. Gordy did a blow by blow of the baton twirl like a sports announcer! Then came back and did a Cyberspace Edition of Sensitive New Age Guys, where she was joined on the stage by men who were Physically there, and many others who were not! I live on the East Coast and I didn't get to sleep until after 2am. But it was well worth it! What a great show! What a great concept! Thank you Christine, Zoe, and TestingTesting! . . - --- END OF (ABRIDGED) REVIEW So - here's where you non-east coast folks can have an advantage over us east-coasters! We have to stay up late! Between each number, Christine would consult Gordy for "What the internet is saying" - there were some very funny moments resulting from it. And when something funny came over via the guestbook, you could hear the audience response - it was Sooooo Cool - I can't imagine Susan *not* having a great time with something like this! Naturally, not everything from the guestbook was read during the concert, but Gordy sure picked and chose well! In case you'd like to get a better idea, The Guestbook from the concert is viewable from a link at the top of Christine Lavin's homepage; http://www.christinelavin.com. The concert was a huge success! Really! Better than I ever expected! Here's what time you would expect the concert to start in your timezone; 5:30 (hawaii-aleutian), 6:30 (alaska), 7:30 (pacific) 8:30 (mountain), 9:30 (central), 10:30 (eastern), 11:30 (atlantic) Australia (for Sheryln :-) 2.30pm (DST) on Nov 10 in Sydney NSW, 1.30pm (no DST) on Nov 10 in Brisbane QLD, 11.30am (no DST) on Nov 10 in Perth WAand What-da-y-all-think?
